Baat baat mein rootho naa

“Seema” (1955) is a movie where Nutan played a tragedy queen role for the first time. As befitted her role, she would remain sad in the movie all the time.
Here is a song where Shubha Khote tries to cheer Nutan up by singing a song. This is a philosophical song where she tells Nutan that there is no point sulking all the time , since fate is not within our control. When one cries, she is alone. When one laughs, the world laughs with her.
Hasrat Jaipuri has come up with a lovely philosophical cum inspirational song which is of relevance even today. Shankar Jaikishan composed the music. It is interesting to notice that Shobha Khote was so slim those days, unlike what she subsequently became.
This movie “Seema” (1955) was a musical blockbuster. This is the fifth song from this movie that I am posting here and there are more to come.

Song-Baat baat mein rootho naa (Seema) (1955) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
baat-baat mein rootho na
apne aap ko looto na
ye rang badalti duniyaa hai
taqdeer pe apni rootho na
ye rang badalti duniyaa hai
taqdeer pe apni rootho na
baat-baat mein rootho na
laaj ki laali aaj bani hai
bheegi palken abru tani hain
laaj ki laali aaj bani hai
bheegi palken abru tani hain
aankhon mein surkhi dil mein muhabbat
honthon pe chhupi hansi hai
aankhon mein surkhi dil mein muhabbat
honthon pe chhupi hansi hai
baat-baat mein rootho na
apne aap ko looto na
ye rang badalti duniyaa hai
taqdeer pe apni rootho na
baat-baat mein rootho na
dhalti hain raaten le kar andheraa
laayin bahaaren nayaa saweraa
dhalti hain raaten le kar andheraa
laayin bahaaren nayaa saweraa
jeewan safar mein dukh ho yaa sukh ho
karnaa hai phir bhi baseraa
jeewan safar mein dukh ho yaa sukh ho
karnaa hai phir bhi baseraa
baat-baat mein rootho na
apne aap ko looto na
ye rang badalti duniyaa hai
taqdeer pe apni rootho na
baat-baat mein rootho na
phool khushi ke har koyi le-le
koyi na dekhe aansoo ke mele
phool khushi ke har koyi le-le
koyi na dekhe aansoo ke mele
tum jo hanse to hans degi duniyaa
ronaa padegaa akele
tum jo hanse to hans degi duniyaa
ronaa padegaa akele
baat-baat mein rootho na
apne aap ko looto na
ye rang badalti duniyaa hai
taqdeer pe apni rootho na
baat-baat mein rootho na

Really a very beautiful and meaningful song. Nobody will take care of your mood fluctuations…better be emotionally strong..and enjoy life as it is.

It was a song full of liveliness and exuberance. Shubha khote tries to made Nutan Cheerful by singing this melodious composition made by shankar Jaikishan. Life is full of ups and downs and it is entirely a rollr coster ride. You never know what the fate has made in store for you. So instead of getting indignant at the small and petty matters of life, try to accustom to it and control the swing of mood frequently. Lyrics are quite strong and music became an overnight rage.
It became a potboiler due to its strong story line, acting prowess of Nutan and catchy and dulcet songs which eventually became timeless classic.

You are right, Atul, the song is a philosophical song, with the old theme: Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone!
Both Nutan and Shubha Khote look so young here, and so lovely!
