“Taraanaa” (1951) was released nearly six decades ago, but there are people who regard this movie as a timeless classic and one of the most memorable movies from Bollywood.
Music of this movie played an important role in popularising this movie which had Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in it. Those were the days when they had a long term romance going between the two onscreen as well as off screen. And this very much relects on their on screen performance. The word “on screen chemistry” is used a lot when describing this fact.
Here is a duet from this movie which is sung by Lata and Talat Mehmood. It is picturised on Madhubala and Dilip Kumar. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and Anil Biswas composed the music.
song-Nain mile nain huye baawre (Taraana) (1951) Singers-Lata, Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Anil Biswas
Lyrics
nain mile nain huye baawre
nain mile nain huye baawre
chain kahaan mohe sajan saanwre
nain huye baawre
nain mile nain huye baawre
nain mile nain huye baawre
dekhte hi dekhte main kho gayi
dekhte hi dekhte main kho gayi
jaagte hi jaagte main so gayi
jaagte hi jaagte main so gayi
ab kabhi main jaagnaa naa chaahoon re
ab kabhi main jaagnaa naa chaahoon re
nain huye baawre
chalte chalte paanv mere tham gaye
chalte chalte paanv mere tham gaye
tum mile to dil ke saare gham gaye
tum mile to dil ke saare gham gaye
mil gayi zulfon ki thandi chhaanv re
mil gayi zulfon ki thandi chhaanv re
nain huye baawre
dhadkane dil ki chhupaaun kis tarah
aaa
dhadkane dil ki chhupaaun kis tarah
laaj kaa ghoonghat uthaaun kis tarah
laaj kaa ghoonghat uthaaun kis tarah
kis tarah saajan teri ban jaaun re
kis tarah saajan teri ban jaaun re
nain huye baawre
nainon se nainaa tere kuchh kah gaye
oo oo
nainon se nainaa tere kuchh kah gaye
pyaar ki lahron mein do dil bah gaye
pyaar ki lahron mein do dil bah gaye
ab ruke naa preet ki ye naav re
ab ruke naa preet ki ye naav re
nain huye baawre
nain mile nain huye baawre
chain kahaan mohe sajan saanwre
nain huye baawre

What a romantic number. Just love this song a lot. This was made 60 years back and is much fresher than the crap that gets made these days.
The chemistry between Dilip Kumar and Madhubala sure is obvious in her eyes.
