Pyaar to ik din honaa thaa

I had vaguely heard about this movie called “Ek Shrimaan Ek Shrimati” (1969) but I was not aware of this song. I heard (and watched) this song for the first time just a few hours ago.
The first thing that caught my eyes was the fact that this is a dance song cum party song, where everyone dances (rather attempt to dance). None of the actors on whom this song is picturised can dance if their lives depended on it. Shashi Kapoor, Rajendranath, even Om Prakash is shown trying to dance and failing miserably. That makes this picturisation a funny picturisation, inadvertantly of course. Babita can be called an exception, but her better performance could be because she was up against bumbling amateurs.
Then I noticed the song. After the second listening, the song had totally grown over me. What a sensational song it is ! And I wondered how I had missed listening to this song till today. This must be one of the best dance cum party songs sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle in their careers. Both have sung this song with gusto, and their singing in fact more than makes up for the incompetent dancers on whom this song is picturised.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. The music sounds so much like Shankar Jaikishan, but in reality this music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
What a song ! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. And one can watch the picturisation too which is certain to amuse you.

And I actually like the Shashi Kapoor dance here. This was his trademark style. Trying to copy his elder brother here, not quite succeeding but coming up with his own style in the process. Quite cute. 🙂

This movie brings back memories. I was very young when I saw this – I remember just one scene (that song “ho aaye baithe khaaye piye khiske” by Rafi saab).
This particular song “pyar to ek din” was pretty popular in its time, if I remember right.
This movie has some other good songs, notably, “raja tohe nainon se madira pilaaye doon” (dance by Laxmi Chhaya).
