O bhole baalmaa o more saajnaa

Posted on: June 17, 2010

I was not aware about this movie called “Poonam” (1952). Once I became aware of this movie and I began to search for songs of this movie, I found that almost all these movies were sung by Lata and they were picturised on Kamini Kaushal as dance songs.

This movie must have forced Kamini Kaushal to dance a lot and that must have done her figure a lot of good, I am sure.

Here is one such song from this movie. The song also shows Ashok Kumar, who does not sing and dance unlike kami Kaushal in this song. That reminds me, I never saw Ashok Kumar dancing in any movie. Even Raj Kapoor, Ram Kumar and Dev Saab were seen dancing clumsily in some rare occasions, but I do not recall Dada Muni striking a dancing pose in any of the movies. Perhaps my readers may be able to point out cases where he dances.

Till then, let us make do with this dance by Kamini Kaushal. This song can be called a joie de vivre kind of song as well. The song is written by Shailendra and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Song-O bhole balmaa o more saajnaa (Poonam) (1952) Singer-Lata, Lyrics- Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

o bhole baalmaa,
o more saajnaa,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun,
dundar dundun dun dun
o bhole baalmaa,
o more saajnaa,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun,
dundar dundun dun dun

kahti hai bahaar mere phoolon ko dekh,
kahti hai bahaar mere phoolon ko dekh,
baaghon mein daaliyon pe jhoolon ko dekh
baaghon mein daaliyon pe jhoolon ko dekh
ude ude baadlon ko gale lagaa ke
ude ude baadlon ko gale lagaa ke
jhoome ye aasmaan, ghoome ye aasmaan,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun,
dundar dundun dun dun
o bhole baalmaa,
o more saajnaa,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun,
dundar dundun dun dun

ambuwaa ki daal pe koyal kaa shor,
ambuwaa ki daal pe koyal kaa shor,
sapnon ki chhaanv mein naache man-mor
sapnon ki chhaanv mein naache man-mor
bholi bhaali teri chhabi nainon mein laa ke,
bholi bhaali teri chhabi nainon mein laa ke,
dole ye dil jawaan, bole ye dil jawaan,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun,
dundar dundun dun dun
o bhole baalmaa,
o more saajnaa,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun,
dundar dundun dun dun

aise mein ankhiyaan bhi bolne lagin,
aise mein ankhiyaan bhi bolne lagin,
hans hans ke raaz dil ke kholne lagin
hans hans ke raaz dil ke kholne lagin
aate jaate chhedti hai chanchal hawaa,
aate jaate chhedti hai chanchal hawaa,
bairi tere binaa, soonaa hai ye samaan,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun dundur dundur dun dun
o bhole baalmaa, o more saajnaa,
aaa aaa aaa
ghunghar baaje chhun chhun dundur dundur dun dun

You raised an interesting question over 9 years ago: Did Dada Muni strike a dancing pose in any movie?

I can think of at least two.

1. Film: Inspector, Song; फूलोके हार ले लो. Ashok Kumar (disguised) is actually dancing.
2. Film: Aashirvad, Song: Rail Gaadi. Ashok Kumar is dancing (sort of).
