Kabhi kisi ko muqqammal jahaan nahin miltaa

on:In 1980s, Bollywood movies were inundated by “Disco” music and “Disco” craze had swept the entire nation like an epidemic.
ut this “Disco” craze was there in the mainstream movies. the non mainstream movie had their own fad. Low budget movies, instead of going the disco way were going in the diametrically opposite direction. Instead of looking westwards, they were looking inwards and they were incorporating a desi music form in a big way. This music form was “Ghazal”, of course.
Quite a few ghazals created those days became very popular. I have already posted a few of them. Here is another such ghazal. This is from the movie “Aahistaa Aahistaa” (1981). This had two versions, viz male version sung by Bhupinder and female version sung by Asha Bhonsle. The movie version of these songs are curtailed and so it is a better idea to listen to the full audio of the song. There also, the male version is readily available, but the female version is not available though versions sung by amateur female singers are available which is not quite my cup of tea.
Here is Bhupinder version of this memorable ghazal. Nada Fazli is the lyricist and Khayyam composed the music.
Audio – Bhupinder version

Song-Kabhi kisi ko muqqamal jahaan nahin miltaa (Aahistaa Aahistaa) (1981) Singer-Bhupinder/Asha Bhosle, Lyrics-Nida Fazli, MD-Khayyam
Lyrics
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa
kahin zameen to kahin aasmaan nahin miltaa
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa
jise bhi dekhiye wo apne aap mein gum hai
jise bhi dekhiye wo apne aap mein gum hai
zubaan mili hai magar hamjubaan nahin miltaa
zubaan mili hai magar hamjubaan nahin miltaa
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa
bujhaa sakaa hai bhalaa kaun waqt ke shole
bujhaa sakaa hai bhalaa kaun waqt ke shole
ye aisi aag hai jisme dhuaan nahin miltaa
ye aisi aag hai jisme dhuaan nahin miltaa
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa
tere jahaan mein aisaa nahin ke pyaar na ho
tere jahaan mein aisaa nahin ke pyaar na ho
jahaan ummeed ho iski wahaan nahin miltaa
jahaan ummeed ho iski wahaan nahin miltaa
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa
kahin zameen to kahin aasmaan nahin miltaa
kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahaan nahin miltaa

What a wonderful song this is. I love ghazals – for their lyrics and softness.
I sing this song a lot – especially the lines “kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahan nahin milta” (nobody ever gets a perfect world) and “tere jahaan mein aisa nahin ki pyaar na ho, jahaan ummeed ho iski, wahaan nahin milta” (it is not as if there is no love in your world, it is just that it is not to be found where it is actually expected).
Lovely lyrics by Nida Fazli, beautifully sung by Bhupinder and composed by Khayyam saab.

OMG ! After many years, I listened to this beautiful ghazal today. I was not aware of Asha’s version until today. In two version songs, generally, I prefer one of the two but here I am not able to decide as to which one is better.
It is unfortunate that the film did not do well and all the good work of Khayyam along with this ghazal went into oblivion.
Since the female version is picturised on Nanda, I guess, the male version may have been picturised on Shammi Kapoor. Other knowledgeable readers can throw light on this. Kunal Kapoor (younger son of Shashi Kapoor) and Padmini Kolhapure were the lead pair.
By the way, the video link of Asha’s version needs to be ‘promoted’ in the main write up. 😉

Thanks Atul ji for posting this song. My favorite and very soulfully rendered by Bhupinder and Asha. Shal, the lyricist is Nida Fazli.
