Aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa

Posted on: August 5, 2010

“Chhote Nawaab” (1961) was R D Burman’s debut movie. He was given this break by Mehmood, and the rest, as they say, was history.

That way, it goes to Mehmood’s credit that he gave breaks to two important artists who influences Bollywood movies in a big way. R D Burman was one and the other person was Amitabh Bachchan who was given his first break as the hero in his “Bombay to Goa”(1971).It is to be kept in mind that Amitabh Bachchan was not the hero in his debut movie “Saat Hindustani” (1970).

When R D Burman got the opportunity to work in “Chhote Nawaab” (1961), he, like any debutant, wanted to give his best. And he wanted to get Lata to sing for him in his debut venture. But there was a catch. His father, S D Burman had stopped working with Lata for the last few years and was not on speaking terms with him. In order to get her to sing for him, he brokered a peace deal between S D Burman and Lata. After that, S D Burman buried the hatchet and again began to use Lata’s voice in his compositions.

In this debut movie of his, R D Burman came up with some lovely compositions. I have already posted two such songs, viz Ghar aaja ghir aaye badra saanwariya and Matwaali aankhon waale

Here is another lovely song from “Chhote Nawaab” (1961). It is a duet sung by Lata and Rafi. It is picturised on Ameeta and Mehmood.Shailendra is the lyricist.

Lyrics

Aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
gaate chalen ham pyaar ki sargam
tu hi bata hamdam mere
kisne ye jaadu daalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
gaate chalen ham pyaar ki sargam
tu hi bata hamdam mere
kisne ye jaadu daalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa

ho ho
bheegi fizaayen thandi hawaayen
hamko kahaan le chalin
ho ho
kaanon mein pyaar kaa
ye payam de chalin
kaanon mein pyaar kaa
ye payaam de chali
din mein ujiyaalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
gaate chalen hampyaar ki sargam
tu hi bata hamdam mere
kisne ye jaadu daalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa

ho ho
khwaabon mein jiske
soye huye the
aakhir wo din aa gayaa
aaa
ho ho
ye jiski aarzoo
bemuraad paa gayaa
ye jiski aarzoo
bemuraad paa gayaa
sang hai mera dil waalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
gaate chalen ham pyaar ki sargam
tu hi bata hamdam mere
kisne ye jaadu daalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa

daaman mein mere moti bikhere
ye kaun dil mein hansaa
ho
daaman mein mere moti bikhere
ye kaun dil mein hansaa
ho ho
banke bahaar kaun zindagi pe chhhaa gayaa
banke bahaar kaun zindagi pe chhhaa gayaa
khwaabon ko mere rang daalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
gaate chalen ham pyaar ki sargam
tu hi bata hamdam mere
kisne ye jaadu daalaa
aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa
ho dil matwaalaa

hey atul
now today i am going to pull u up not for recognizing the heroine wrong but because u ve ur information wrong. ‘Saat Hindustani’ was Amitabh Bachchan’s debut —yes! but it was a K.A.Abbas movie. and yes the movie that launched Amitabh Bachchan commercially was ‘Bombay to Goa’ this was the Mehmood movie. incidentally ‘Saat Hindustani’ was the debut movie of Mehmood’s brother i think his name was Nasir ali
