Chal diya dil mera tod ke

on:There was a movie called “Fifty Fifty” (1956) which had actors like M.Rajan,Nalini Jaiwant,David,Om Prakash, Manmohan Krishna,Gope,Helen, Tuntun etc.
The movie is obscure, and its songs have also been by and large forgotten. But are the songs of this movie all that forgettable. I do not think so. After all, this movie had music by Madan Mohan.
Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Lata. Only the audio is available, but from all indications, it appears that the song was picturised on Nalini Jaiwant.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.
The music by Madan Mohan is sombre, in tune with the sentimental nature of the song. And this song sound like a quintessential Lata-Madan Mohan gem to me.
song-Chal diyaa dil mera tod ke (Fifty Fifty) (1956) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan
Lyrics
chal diyaa dil meraa tod ke
yoon akelaa mujhe chhod ke
yaad rakhnaa magar bewafaa
tujhko bhoolegaa na dil meraa
sochti hai tamanaa meri
kyun basaayi thi duniyaa meri
kyun banaayaa thaa wo aashiyaan
aaj uthataa hai jis se dhuaan
dil na samjhe ye teri adaa
dil na samjhe ye teri adaa
yaad rakhanaa magar bewafaa
tujhko bhuulegaa na dil meraa
sochataa hai ye dil kyaa huaa
raat par din kaa dhokhaa huaa
phool le kar ye kaante diye
kyun sitamagar sitam ye kiye
chaahe mujhko tu jitnaa bhulaa
chaahe mujhko tu jitnaa bhulaa
yaad rakhanaa magar bewafaa
tujhako bhuulegaa na dil meraa
chal diyaa dil meraa tod ke
yoon akelaa mujhe chhod ke
yaad rakhnaa magar bewafaa
tujhko bhoolegaa na dil meraa
chal diyaa dil meraa tod ke
tod ke

Remember seeing this movie in 1957 in Kenya. The song was picturised on Nalini Jaywant, a very versatile actress of the day, lyrics of Rajinder Krishna is fabulous and the tune is absolutely fantastic as if Madan Mohan has plucked it out of heven and lastly what to say about Lataji, the way she has rendered the song is majestic and over all my most favourite song, which I must have heard and played on keyboard hundreds of time.
What and ERA was that.
