Kahin naa jaa aaj kahin mat jaa

I had begun to lose track of Hindi movie music by 1980s. By that time, Bappi Lahiri with his chaalu brand of songs had displaced the usual kind of music and the golden era of Hindi movie music was all but over. In late 1960s, R D Burman kind of music marginalised the older generation of music directors. Here , in late 1970, we find Bappi Lahiri brand of music marginalising the likes of R D Burman !
R D Burman kind of music of 1970s is remembered even today, whereas there are not too many takers for disco music of 1980s today.
To the credit of R D Burman, he did not jump into the bandwagon of cheap and chaalu songs and continued to create the kind of music that was his hallmark.
Here is a song from “Bade Dil Waala” (1983). I had never heard this song till a few hours ago. When I heard this song for the first time, I sat up and took notice. What a wonderful song it is !
I had not heard this song in 1983 and perhaps this song was lost in the din of disco and chaalu songs of 1980s, but the sheer quality of this song shines through even today.
This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata and it is picturised as a party/ get together song on Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim and others. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

Lyrics
kahin na jaa,
aaj kahin mat jaa
phir mile naa mile
ye pal ye samaan
baahon mein aa jaa
kahin na jaa
aaj kahin mat jaa
phir mile naa mile
ye pal ye samaan
baahon mein aa jaa
ye jo bas mein kadam nahin tere
main sambhaaloongi tu aa sang mere
tere dil ki manzil hai yahaan
ho
ye jo bas mein kadam nahin tere
main sambhaaloongi tu aa sang mere
tere dil ki manzil hai yahaan
jaane wafaa,
sach hai kisko pataa
phir mile naa mile
ye pal ye samaan
baahon mein aa jaa
meri raahon kaa diyaa teri aankhen
mere gam ki dawaa teri baaten
to phir aur jaanaa hai kahaan
aaa aaa aaa aaa
meri raahon kaa diyaa teri aankhen
mere gam ki dawaa teri baaten
to phir aur jaanaa hai kahaan
kahin na jaa,
aaj kahin mat jaa
phir mile naa mile
ye pal ye saamaan
baahon mein aa jaa
uljhan teri main sab jaanoon
tujhe teri tarah pahchaanoon
jo main hoon to gham kyaa jaanejaan
ho jab dil huaa teraa deewaanaa
thokar mein hai saaraa zamaanaa
meraa kyaa karegaa ye jahaan
jaane wafaa
sach hai kisko pataa
phir mile na mile
ye pal ye samaan
baahon mein aa jaa
kahin na jaa
aaj kahin mat jaa
phir mile naa mile
ye pal ye saamaan
baahon me aa jaa
baahon me aa jaa
baahon me aa jaa

My sis used to hum it all the time in 83-84, then I lost track of the song and discovered it around 2003 again at music india online, since then just love it. other good lesser known album of Pancham in the 80s are Sunny and zameen Aasman. Both of them share even a similar plotline
