By 1980s, the lyrics of Hindi movie songs had become much more functional and basic. In many cases, the songs of that era virtually dispensed with the need of any meaningful lyrics and managed with gibberish passing for lyrics.
Even the leading lyricists of yesteryears were forced to jump into the bandwagon of mediocrity. Someone like Majrooh Sultanpuri, who alongwith Anand Bakshi is the most prolific Hindi movie lyricist of all time, too came up with lyrics in 1980s that hardly challenged his intellect.
And these songs often did very well too.
Here is a song from “Khuddar” (1982) which is a get together song where Amitabh Bachchan expresses his love for Parveen Babi. The lyrics are written in street smart language, as had become the norm in 1980s, and majority of movie goers obviously lapped it up whole heartedly.
The song is undoubtedly quite humable. This song in fact was the most popular song of the year in the Binaca Geetmala annual programme of 1982.
This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata and the music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.
