In Hindi movies, we have several songs that allude to Lord Krishna and his baansuri (flute). I wonder why I did not have a category for such songs. Indeed there are so many songs of this category that I should have thought of it. Now I have finally opened a “Baansuri” category and hopefully this will cover most songs of this genre.

“Naubahaar” (1952) was a musical blockbuster and critics continued to rave about the songs of this movie for decades. I, who disliked old songs as a pre teen kid had also read about the songs of “Naubahaar” in 1970s.

“Dilruba” (1950) has some awesome songs in it. In fact I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie. In fact I was so impressed with one song ( Dhak dhak karti chali jeewan ki rail re )of this movie that I had posted that as the 2000th song of this blog.

Radio songs where a long lost individual sings live on radio station and his beloved just happens to be listening to that very radio station- this was one variation of lost and found themes that Hindi movies have been so fond of.

“Pukaar” (1939) made by Sohrab Modi is regarded as a landmark movie in the history of Hindi movies. I as a pre teen kid was never impreessed by such talk of old movies being landmak movies. I never watched this movie nor bothered to listen to its songs. And now, this movie as well as its songs have become too rare to find.

I was very surprised to see this song being given as a farmaaish because I thought that this song was discussed long back. On checking, I found that I was wrong of course. Perhaps I may have planned to discuss this song but I did not.

“Miyaan Beewi Raazi” (1960) was a small budget movie made with unknown actors like Kamini Kadam, Shrikant Gaurav, Seema, Raja Gosavi and Mehmood. This movie apparently failed at the box office, seeing that the names of the lead actors of this movie do not ring any bells.

“Mirza Ghalib” (1954) is a movie based on the life of legendary Urdu Poet Mirza Ghalib. This movie had most of its songs based on Mirza Ghalib’s poems, so in effect, Ghalib himself is the lyricist of most songs of this movie, even though he had dead for some one hundred years by the time this movie was made.

“Sagaai” (1951) is an action/adventure movie starring Premnath,Rehana,Purnima, Vijaylaxmi, Gope,Yaqoob,Ifteqar,Heeralal, Sundar etc. This movie has some interesting songs in it.
