Doli chadhhte hi Heer ne bain kiye
Posted on: April 18, 2011
I have discussed three of the better known songs from this movie. Now I have become aware of a few other songs of this movie too thanks to nahm.
Here is a “doli” song, that is also a bidaayi song, from this movie. The picturisation shows Priya Rajwansh, playing Heer, being sent off in Doli to her husband’s place. And, as is usual in such stories, he has been married off to a stranger chosen by her parents and her lover Ranjha finds himself in the lurch.
The song is sung by Lata. Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist. Madan Mohan composed the music of this song.
“Heer Ranjha” is a Punjabi love story and this song too has a few Punjabi words in it, though most of these words may be familiar to Hindi speakers as well.

Song-Doli chadhhte hi Heer ne bain kiye (Heer Ranjha) (1970) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Madan Mohan
Lyrics
Doli chadhte hi Heer ne bain kiye
o o o o
mujhe le chale baabul
le chale ve
mujhe rok le baabul
rok le tu
doli bairi kahaar lai chale ve
hmm hm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm hmm
do chaar ghadi bhi na chain paayaa
dukh dard museebaten lai chale ve
meraa kahaa sunaa sab maaf karnaa
kuchh roz tere ghar rah chale ve
tujhe Raanjhanaa rab ke hawaale kiyaa
ham des mein zaalimaa ke chale ve
rahi pyaar ki jholi
dekh khaali
koi cheez bhi saath na le chale ve
mere baad khabar teri kaun legaa
tere bhaag mein hai tanhaayiyaan ve
mujhe aur ummeed thhi
aur huaa
ki Rab ne beparwaayiyaan ve
o o
ki Rab ne beparwaayiaan ve

amongst thousands songs i might have heard, this song has deep emotions.
especially when Lataji sings, “do chaar ghadi bhi na chain paayaa….” that part is too sad…
thanks for posting

Wonderful song. I have listened to this hundreds of time but still my heart is not satisfied. Can you find the original Heer song written by Pakistani poet Warish Shah?

Thank u very much for posting this bidaai song. Perfectly composed, rendered and picturized for the situation. A very compelling song.
