Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Jeewan aasha ye hai meri

Posted on: June 11, 2011

I am aware of movies called “Zindagi” that were released in 1956 and 1964. There was in fact another movie of this name as far back as in 1940. This movie, produced by New Theatre,Calcutta, had actors like K L Saigal, Ashalata, Jamuna, Pahadi Sanyal,Sham Laha, Nimmo etc in it.

If this movie has K L Saigal, then it follows that the movie must have K L saigal songs too. and indeed that is how it is.

Here is a lovely K L Saigal song from “Zindagi” (1940). This song is written by Kidar Sharma. Pankaj Mullick is the music director.

Song-Jeewan aashaa ye hai meri (Zindagi) (1940) Singer-K L Saigal, Lyrics-Kidar Sharma, MD-Pankaj Mullick

Lyrics

jeewan aashaa ye hai meri
jeewan aashaa ye hai
jitne sahaare chhoot chuke hain
sabkaa sahaaraa ye hai
meri jeewan aashaa ye hai
meri jeewan aashaa ye hai

yahi hai meri saari poonji
yahi sab yahi sab dhan maayaa hai
yahi hai meri saari poonji
yahi sab yahi sab dhan maayaa hai
aankhon ki thandak man ki dhaadhas
aankhon ki thandak man ki dhaadhas
aur annadaataa ye hai
meri jeewan aashaa ye hai
meri jeewan aashaa ye hai

ye hi
yahi hai mujhko heeraa-pannaa
yahi hai moti-moongaa
naam hai jiskaa ek duwanni
saaraa khazaanaa ye hai
ye jo gayi to gayaa khazaanaa
aas gayi
aas gayi aur jaan gayi
ye jo gayi to gayaa khazaanaa
aas gayi
aas gayi aur jaan gayi
saare sahaare
saare sahaare toot na jaayen
dil ko dhadkaa ye hai
dil ko dhadkaa ye hai
jeewan aashaa aa

Atul ji,
ZINDAGI was Saiga’ls 18th film in Hindi(10 more were to come).
This film had some outstanding songs like
“So ja Rajkumari,so ja”-a Lori which Lata Mangeshkar used to practice in her childhood.
“Main kya jaanu kya jaadu hai” and
“Diwana hun, diwana hun, raahat se mai begaana hun”

-AD

Thanks for the information about these songs. These two songs are among the better known K L Saigal songs. I have heard these songs many a times, but I was not aware that these songs were from “Zindagi” (1940).
