Le dekh tere raaj mein ham lut gaye hain aaj

Posted on: August 22, 2011

If one wants to get any work done from someone, then one needs to request them politely and respectfully. And in many cases, this works like a charm.

But there is another school of thought, according to which one can only get the work done by threatening/bullying/abusing/harassing the person responsible for doing the job. I find that there and indeed places in India and also in neighbouring countries where it is believed that one can get the best out of people by humiliating them. So we have had sports coaches in these countries who were seen publicly humiliating their players and thus hoping to get their best performances.

When it comes to Hindi movies, one often requires the help of the almighty to get some important work done. And for that, a lady would be seen in front of the idol of the God and singing a song which is her way of sending SOS to the Almighty. Typically the person beseeching the God does so in a humble and respectful way, and often even begs /grovels before God’s idol. And then there is the other approach, which believes that God, like human beings, only acts when pressurised by calling His acts into question. I call such songs as “remonstrating with the Almighty”.

I have discussed a song of this genre from ‘Chakradhaari” (1954). It turns out that there is another song of the same genre in this movie.

Here is this song where Nirupa Roy does not mince words when confronting the God. “Dont you feel any shame acting like this ?”- she questions the Almighty. 😀

She is acting like an angry young mother here, who is remonstrating with the Almighty for snatching her child away from her. As we saw in the other remonstrating with the God song from this movie, she finally shames the Almighty into acting and the almighty is forced to return her son back to her. 😀

This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Pradeep is the lyricist. Music is composed by Avinash Vyas.

Statutory warning- Do not abuse Almighty, or even Human beings, if you need to get some work done from them. It may prove counterproductive. 😀

Song-Le dekh tere raaj mein ham lut gaye hain aaj (Chakradhaari) (1954) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Pradeep, MD-Avinash Vyas

Lyrics

Kyaa kuchh bhi nahin aati hai
bhagwaan tujhe laaj
kyaa kuchh bhi nahin aati hai
bhagwaan tujhe laaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj
ek badan se(?) maan ki to
mamta huyi mohtaaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham lut gaye hain aaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham lut gaye hain aaj

ab kiske sang khelenge ham
daud daud ke
ab kiske sang khelenge ham
daud daud ke
toone to rakh diyaa hai
khilauna hi tod ke
ye kyaa kiyaa toone
arre sansaar ke sirdhaar
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj

laakhon museebaten pade
bhakton ki jaan pe
laakhon museebaten pade
bhakton ki jaan pe
aur chain se soya kare
tu aasmaan pe
aisa to nahin thha
kabhi maalik tera riwaaz
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj

ab kaise bataa
ham jiyen bin apne laal ke
ab kaise bataa
ab kaise bataa
ham jiyen bin apne laal ke
tu le gaya hamaara kaleja nikaal ke
tu le gaya hamaara kaleja nikaal ke
doobaa hai hamara to
kinaare pe hi jahaaz
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj
le dekh tere raaj mein ham
lut gaye hain aaj
ham lut gaye hain aaj
haay lut gaye hain aaj
haay lut gaye hain aaj
