Main jo galey lag jaaungi

Posted on: October 15, 2011

The last time when I discussed songs composed by Ganesh,I had discussed almost all the Ganesh compositions that were they available. As things stand, this blog has as many as 31 songs composed by Ganesh. It may not look like much, but when one realises that Ganesh only composed 80 odd songs in his career, this figure is a lot !

In the last few months, some more Ganesh compositions have been uploaded in YT etc, and that gives me the opportunity to discuss a few more such songs. I liked these songs so much that I kept postponing their discussion to some more opportune moment. But now I have realised that any moment is just as opportune as any other moment, so instead of wasting any more time, here is a Ganesh composition.

This song is from “Anjaam” (1968). “Anjaam” (1968) is a B grade movie which was produced by Sargam Chitra Productions and directed by Shiv Kumar. The movie had Feroz Khan, Shahida, N. A. Ansari, Azad, Sherry, Rajen Kapoor, Lata Sinha, Jeevankala, Helen, Sunder, Johny Whisky, etc in it.

This movie flopped at the box office and as a result the songs of this movie were forgotten as well. Fortunately the prints of this movie survived and now the movie has been released on VCDs. The movie may not be any great shakes, but the songs certainly are top notch.

Here is a fantastic “Helen” song from this movie. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist.

And I am extremely pleased that I have been able to add one more Ganesh composition to the blog.

I find that hardly any information is available on Ganesh in internet. We do not even know about his date of birth and other such information, even though he was the younger brother of the famous Pyarelal (of Laxmikant Pyarelal fame). I request our knowledgeable readers throw throw more light on the career and biography of Ganesh.

Song-Main jo galey lag jaaungi (Anjaam) (1968) Singer-Asha Bhonsle,Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi,MD-Ganesh

Lyrics

Main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa
main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa
tu jahaan jahaan bhi jaayegaa
mera pyaar tujhe tadpaayegaa
main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa

dekhaa mujhe jo parwaanon ne
shama pe jalna chhodaa
phoolon ko bhoola bulbul
aur mujhse naataa jodaa
dekhaa mujhe jo parwaanon ne
shama pe jalna chhodaa
phoolon ko bhoola bulbul
aur mujhse naataa jodaa
tera khoon yahin ho jaayegaa
mera pyaar tujhe tadpaayegaa
main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa

keh do in sab dilwaalon ko
aao main pyaar sikhhaa doon
hai hosh ka jisko dawaa
main uske hosh udaa doon
keh do in sab dilwaalon ko
aao main pyaar sikhhaa doon
hai hosh ka jisko dawaa
main uske hosh udaa doon
jab hosh mein tu aayegaa
mera pyaar tujhe tadpaayegaa
main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa

bolo paa’ogey o deewaano
ye zulf ka saayaa kaise
pakdoge o naadaanon
ye udta baadal kaise
bolo paa’ogey o deewaano
ye zulf ka saayaa kaise
pakdoge o naadaanon
ye udta baadal kaise
tere haath ye na aayegaa
mera pyaar tujhe tadpaayegaa
main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa
tu jahaan jahaan bhi jaayegaa
mera pyaar tujhe tadpaayegaa
main jo gale lag jaaungi
tera badan jal jaayegaa

Atul ji,

Wow, I got to hear this song after ages; is a real favorite of mine, since childhood. But had lost this song in between.
Thanks for bringing it back to life. 🙂
What a wonderful foot tapping rhythm from Ganesh. Too good.

One can say that for almost every Ganesh composition. I think I need to catch up on lost time and discuss the remaining Ganesh compositions. Hopefully many of them should be available by now.

Atul ji,

That is so true, and so one is really flummoxed on which artist to concetrate on and address. Everyone of them is such a wonderful talent. Well, with patience I am sure we will get all.

Couple of minor corrections in the last antaraa

“bolo ?? jeewaano”
shoud read
“bolo paa’ogey o deewaano”

and later in the same antaraa
“tere saath ye na aayegaa”
should read
“tere haath ye na aayegaa”

Thanks for the information about Ganesh which I was searching for. Now I know his date of birth, which will be an important date for this blog.

Arunkumar Ji, what I know is that he was married to actress Alka (of Wapas & Khilona fame). Was Alka her screen name? Was she from a different faith?
