“Anand Math” (1952) is a novel written by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay which was first published in 1882. This novel served as a major source of inspiration for Indian freedom fighters against the British rulers. The British rulers banned this novel and this ban was lifted only after India gained independence. “Vandematram”, a song contained in the novel became Indian’s national song.

This song is a wonderful fun song from the film Khel (1950). And a fitting finale, too. Of the nine songs in this film, eight are already posted here on this blog. This is the ninth song that is rare and obscure, so much so that it has not been posted on the internet yet. In the write up for the eighth song of this film published on this blog “Kahe Mujhse Jawaani Mere Dil Ki Kahaani” , Atul ji has mentioned that the one last song is yet to be discovered. That was almost two weeks ago. On searching through my collection, I am now able to locate this song; and it is now posted on YouTube.

“Chhoti Bahu” (1971) is a movie which was produced by Seeroo Daryani and Darius Gotia.K B Tilak was the director. The movie had Rajesh Khanna,Sharmila Tagore Nirupa Roy, Shashikala, I. S. Johar, Madhumati, Jayshree T., Master Suraj, Mehmood Junior, Tarun Bose, Shivraj, Jairaj, Master Ratan, Radhika Rani, Irshad Panjatan, Chandrima Bhaduri etc in it.

“Pinjre Ke Panchhi”(1966), despite being a movie of reasonably recent vintage (by the standards of this blog), is a movie that is by and large forgotten. This movie was a Shobhana Pictures presentation and it was directed by Salil Chaudhary. The movie had Mehmood, Balraj Sahni, Meena Kumari, Abhi Bhattacharya, Asit Sen, Keshto Mukherjee, Poonam, Viswas Kunte, R. Jhunjhunwala, Harin Chattopadhyaya etc in it.

“Raat Ki Raani” (1949) was a J S Pictures presentation. J S stood for Jagdish Sethi, who also directed the movie, and for that matter even acted in the movie. The cast of the movie included names like Munawwar Sultana, Shyam, Sulochana Chatterji, Madan Puri, Jagdish Sethi, Om Prakash, Chaman Puri etc.
