Dil leke dil diya hai

Posted on: December 28, 2011

Love is the most common theme in Hindi movie songs. There are many variations of this theme and one of them is light teasing between lovers.

Here is a light teasing song from a movie called “Stage” (1951). Mr Sadanand Kamath had heard this song regularly on Radio Ceylon in 1950s, but all this while he was totally oblivious of the details of the this song and he became aware of the details only after the advent of YT.

This movie was directed by Vijay Mhatre and the movie had Dev Anand and Ramola in lead roles.

This song is a duet sung by Lata and Rafi. Only the audio of this song is available, but it is not difficult to guess that the song is picturised on Ramola and Dev Anand.

In most Hindi movie songs, love is supposedly free like air, an may be that is why it is sometimes not valued by the recipient. But this song is different. It follows the double entry system, whereby one gave her heart and received his heart, and so the accounts were balanced and there were no pending dues. 🙂

The cute lyrics are written by Sarshar Sailaani. Music is composed by Husnlal Bhagatram.

Here is this rare and interesting song from “Stage” (1951) for the listening pleasure of music lovers.

Song-Dil leke dil diya hai (Stage)(1951) Singers-Lata, Rafi, Lyrics-Sarshar Sailaani,MD-Husnlal Bhagatram
Lata + Rafi =Fuchsia

Lyrics(Provided by Sadanand Kamath)

dil leke dil diyaa hai,
ehsaan kya kiya hai
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai
dil leke dil diyaa hai,
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai
itna guroor kaisa,
kyaa muft de diyaa hai
kyaa muft de diyaa hai

qurbaan iss adaa ke
phir dekh mushkura ke
phir dekh mushkura ke
qurbaan iss adaa ke
phir dekh mushkura ke
phir dekh mushkura ke
nazron se dil uda ke
kabzaa zamaa liyaa hai
kabzaa zamaa liyaa hai

dil leke dil diyaa hai,
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai

do mast nain tere,
do mast nain mere
do mast nain mere
do mast nain tere,
do mast nain mere
do mast nain mere
dono ne pyaar hoke,
ek dil chura liyaa hai
ek dil chura liyaa hai
dil leke dil diyaa hai,
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai

taaron se koyee poochhe,
baichaniyaan hamaari
baichaniyaan hamaari
taron se koyee poochhe,
baichaniyaan hamaari
baichaniyaan hamaari
jis din se dil diyaa hai,
ik dard le liyaa hai
ik dard le liyaa hai

dil leke dil diyaa hai,
ehsaan kyaa kiyaa hai
ehsaan kya kiya hai

Atul ji,
STAGE-1951 was a Jeevan pictures,Bombay film produced by J.D.Chandra and Directed by a dubutant Vijay Mhatre(This happens to be his only film).
There were 2 Music Directors,Husnalal Bhagatram-composing 7 songs and Sardar Malik(father of Anu Malik,composer,Anchor and singer)-composing 5 songs.lyrics were by Sarashar Sailani.
The cast was Dev Anand,Ramola,Raj Mehra,Kuldip Kaur,Gulab,Sunder,Mubarak,Cuckoo etc.
Prof.Rajan(Raj Mehra) is sad because his family life is spoied due to the sharp and acidic tongue of his wife(Kuldeep kaur). His daughter Sudha(Ramola) is with him on this issue.one day he discovers that his college love Kamini(Gulab) is in town as Neelam the stage dancer. He goes to meet her. Both share their grief but Rajan can not help her.In due course, Rajan’s wife learns about Neelam, there is a fight and Rajan is injured by accident. He goes to meet Neelam-who is murdered and police arrest Rajan with blood stained clothes.
Sudha, who is enjoying her boy friend Anand’s(Dev Anand) BD party, learns about it.She is determined to find out the real culprit. With help from Anand, his friend Chunnu(Sunder) and some clues, they reach Poona.Sudha joins as Dancer in the previous stage co. of Neelam. They get the proof that the Owner of the theatre(Mubarak)is the culprit.
After some chase, suspense and a mock fight(it is funny to see Dev Anand fighting 7-8 gundas at a time),the murderer is cought by the police,Rajan released,Sudha-Anand married and Rajan’s wife reformed.

Thanks alot for the info. The film had a very nice Diwali song “Jagmagati diwali ki raat aa gayi” and it was sung in 2 versions – 1 by Lata and the other by Asha. Can you inform me on whom were they picturised?
