Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Mere yaar tu chhod gham

Posted on: June 4, 2012

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

While I searched for this song, Youtube had a number of audio links, no video links, and they all said only that this was a Rafi song from the film “Love in Canada”. The year is said to be 1979, but I am not too sure. When I heard the opening music of the song, I was convinced that it is an R D Burman song. Still to verify my hunch, I looked for info on earthmusic.net. But that website has no information of either this film or song. In this case even Google search engine was not of much help. Finally I remembered that there is a privately compiled list of all Rafi songs stored somewhere in my lap top. I found the excel format file and found the other details about this song. This is song no. 5337 in total 5373 songs rendered by Mohammed Rafi.

Now as I checked that list it is not having “Main jab gaaun geet suhaana” from the film “Amar Raj” (1946). This song was missing even in the geetkosh, and so it is to be concluded that the list I am having is compiled from “Geetkosh”. I was so dissapointed that this song was termed as orphan song which is not there in the geetkosh. Than I consoled myself that if it is not a film song, then let it be termed as a non-film song, or a song not used or recorded for a film. Now thanks to the personal efforts made by Mr. Sudhir Kapur, this beautiful solo song from the film “Amar Raaj” has been assigned its place in the “Geet kosh”.

Another source of information I have accessed in the past is Hamaara Forum’s Database. In one instance I found that to be inaccurate/incomplete in that it has no record of the song “Tera Husn Rahe mera ishq rahe” from the film “do dil” (1965). Both these songs are now posted in this blog.

We in this blog are striving to be the most accurate and complete as far as possible. That is why I had earlier suggested that the list of non-film songs be kept separate from film songs, not just from the total songs posted but also in the stats page.

This song from “Love in Canada” is a Rafi solo song, written by Yogesh and music is composed by Hemant Kumar. The song has a very infectious inspiring and encouraging spirit. I have heard this song a few times. But today I just felt like writing about it. I have no idea on whom this song is picturised or any other details about this film. And this is the first song from this film to be discussed in this blog.

Song-Mere yaar tu chhod gham (Love in Canada)(1979) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Yogesh, MD-Hemant Kumar

Lyrics

mere yaar tu
chhod gham
chhod de yeh udaasi
muskuraate huye kaat de
zindagi ki ghadi
yeh zaraa si
mere yaar tu
chhod gham
chhod de yeh udaasi
muskuraate huye kaat de
zindagi ki ghadi
yeh zaraa si
mere pyaar tu

kyun dabaa baitha hai
aakhir dard ke tu bojh se
zindagi to hai wohi jo
beet jaaye mauj se
kyun dabaa baitha hai
aakhir dard ke tu bojh se
zindagi to hai wohi jo
beet jaaye mauj se
baat kehta hoon pate ki
dekh le tu soch ke
mere yaar tu
chhod gham
chhod de yeh udaasi
muskuraate huye kaat de
zindagi ki ghadi yeh zaraa si
mere pyaar tu

kyun shikaayat hai bhala
tujh ko teri taqdeer se
mangtaa hai pyaar tu
patthar bani tasveer se
kyun shikaayat hai bhala
tujh ko teri taqdeer se
mangtaa hai pyaar tu
patthar bani tasveer se
baat suljhaani hai to
suljhaa zaraa tadbeer se
mere yaar tu
chhod gham
chhod de yeh udaasi
muskuraate huye kaat de
zindagi ki ghadi yeh zaraa si
mere yaar tu

ek tu hi to nahin hai
jisko ranj-o-gham mile
yeh to sadiyon se yehaan par
chal rahe hain silsile
ek tu hi to nahin hai
jisko ranj-o-gham mile
yeh to sadiyon se yehaan par
chal rahe hain silsile
khilne waale phool to
kaanton mein bhi khil ke rahe
mere yaar tu
chhod gham
chhod de yeh udaasi
muskuraate huye kaat de
zindagi ki ghadi yeh zaraa si
mere yaar tu

nahm ji,
LOVE IN CANADA-1979 never saw the light of the day.
It was a Tyagi Films’ prodn. made in Panavision and in colour.
The Director was S.Ramnathan,MD-Hemant kumar and Lyricist Yogesh.
The cast was Vinod Mehra,Mausami Chatterji,Shelley Homik(Miss Teen Canada),Jeetendra(in a special role),Asrani,Aruna Irani,Iftikhar,Indrani mukherji etc.
There were 4 Hindi songs and 1 English song sung by Sharon prabhakar, written by herself.
on further search, unconfirmed reports say that it was a remake of a film in Telugu, directed by Ramnathan himself.
After recording above songs the film was abandoned, but its LP was made.

Yes. I have read a very recent interview of S Ramanathan where he mentioned how close he was to Amitabh and that Amitabh would call him up often to consult on professional and personal matters.

This movie has been released in the video circuit, before the era of dvd and cd, I have seen the VHS video cassette cover of this movie in one of our local video library and
Set max also used to show this movie in early mornings, but again I haven`t seen the movie, I have seen only the programme schedule time table of Set max, Whenever I tried to catch the movie, that turns out to be new Love in canada(must have been made in late 90`s) starring new faces and comedian rajpal yadav .This version of Love in canada is a C or D grade movie I think, which has got ample body show and crude comedy.
