Here is another song from the film “Laila Majnu”. This is also a Lata-Rafi duet, composed by Madan Mohan. Lyrcist is Saahir Ludhianvi. This must be the most popular song from the film. And for once the songs composed by Madan Mohan were more to the tastes of the masses rather than the classes. This may have been in accordance with the theme and setting of the film, this being a period film, if not historical. Even if this is the sixth song to appear in the blog, the songs of the film are not yet done. There are three more songs that remain to be discussed.
The situation for this song is typical. Majnu has got a gift of ‘Paazeb” set for Laila. As he has no means of going to meet her and give her the gift, he enters her home in the dead of night to give the gift. He ends up leaving only one paazeb with Laila and its pair is left with him. So they both have a paazeb each which they can sing about.
Both Ranjeeta and Rishi Kapoor are enjoying the setting and mood of this song. As with other songs, this song is also endearing to watch due to Rishi Kapoor’s natural acting.

Thanks nahmji for the song, This is one of my favourite songs of Lataji & Rafi ji. Especially I very much like the lines “Iss reshmi paazeb ki jhankaar ke sadqe” and “uss zulf ke qurbaan lab-o-rukhsaar ke sadqe”
In my personal opinion, Ranjeeta Kaur looks ravishing while lip syncing to Lataji` voice, in this song.(Also Ranjeeta and Rishi ji emote very well for the other classic song of the movie “Koyee patthar se na maare, meri deewaangee ko ”
Also,I love the dance direction and the sets of this movie.
If I am not wrong,this movie was directed by vetern director H.S.Rawail, who directed movies like Mere Mehboob, Sanghursh(Dilip,vyjayanthi starrer)Deedar-e-yaar,Mehboob ki Mehandi. I like his direction and the ambience he creates in his movies.
His son Rahul Rawail also a competent director whose direction I liked in movies like
Love Story(Kumar Gaurav)Betaab,Arjun,Samundar,Dacait-all sunny Deol starrer. Later on Rahul Rawail it seems lost his magical touch I think.

“Husn haazir hai muhobbat ki sazaa paane ko” is almost synonymous with ‘Lail majnu” or even Ranjeeta. Ranjeeta achieved name and fame enacting this role. ‘Iss reshmi paazeb ki’ is a very popular song. It is as if i have always known these songs. And this also qualifies for “how come this song was not discussed’ category.
