Today (19 august) is Utpal Dutt’s death anniversary. Utpal Dutt was typically known to play the role of an idiosyncratic oldie. During early 1980s, he got somewhat typed cast as a lecherous old man eyeing women greedily. He played such roles in movies like “Naram Garam” (1981) and “Shaukeen” (1982). In “Shaukeen”, he had company of like minded oldtimers viz Ashok Kumar and A K Hangal, but he was on his own in “Naram Garam” (1981).
Here is a song from “Naram Garam” (1981). Here he eyes Swaroop Sampat with Amol Palekar playing his guide in this expedition.
The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Gulzar is the lyricist and music is composed by R D Burman. With such a tried and tested combination, the song has to be fantastic to listen to.
