Today (27 august) is the death anniversary of Basu Bhattacharya. It is interesting to note that Hrishikesh Mukherji and Basu Bhattacharya, who made similar kind of movies share the same date as their death anniversaries.
“Aastha”(1997), an Aarohi Films Makers production, was produced and directed by Basu Bhattacharya. This move had Rekha, Om Puri,Daisy Irani, Dinesh Thakur, Anwesha Bhattacharya, Sagar Arya, Navin Nischol, Preeta Mathur, Meenakshi Pande, Milind Wagh, Navin Patel, Shruthi Patel etc in it.
Here is a song from this movie. The song is sung by Sriradha Bannerji. Gulzar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sharang Dev.
The song is picturised on Rekha and Om Puri.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

tan pe lagti kaanch ki boondein
mann pe lage toh jaanen
tan pe lagti
kaanch ki boondein
mann pe lage toh jaanen
tan pe lagti
kaanch ki boondein
mann pe lage toh jaanen
barf se thandi ,
aag ki boondein
barf se thandi,
aag ki boondein
dard chhuge toh jaanen
tan pe lagti
kaanch ki boondein
mann pe lage toh jaanen
laal sunehri chingaari si
laal suneheri chingaari si
belein jhoolti rehti hain
baahar gulmohar ki laptein
baahar gulmohar ki laptein
dil mein uge toh jaanen
tan pe lagti kaanch ki boondein
mann pe lage toh jaanen
baarish lambe lambe haathon se
jab aakar chhooti hai
baarish lambe lambe haathon se
jab aakar chhooti hai
ye lobaan si saansein hain jo
ye lobaan si saansein thhodi
der ruke toh jaanen
tan pe lagti kaanch ki boondein
man pe lage to jaanen
baraf se thande ,aag ki boondein
baraf se thande,aag ki boondein
dard chhuge to jaanen
tan pe lagti kaanch ki boondein
mann pe lage toh jaanen

Hrishikesh Mukherjee tried to portray comman man’s issues in a humorous way (Biwi Aur Makaan, Bawarchi, Chupke Chupke, Gol Maal, Naram Garam, etc) and found a balance between commercial and art cinema with his “middle cinema”. Basuda is famous for his marital trilogy of 70s (Anubhav, Avishkar, Grih Pravesh) which would align more with the so called Art cinema. Their work would be polar opposite, so to speak. I think u probably meant Basu Chatterjee (Chhoti Si Baat, Chitchor, Khatta Meetha, Baaton Baaton Mein), when u said Hrishida and Basuda made similar kind of movies.
