Post “Anand”(1970) and “Mili” (1975),Hrishikesh Mukherji hit upon the formula of family comedy movies. In these movies, there would be an old fashioned strict patriarch/ matriarch who would regard himself as a know all and he would rule his joint family with an iron hand. The story of the movie would let movie goers have a laugh at the cost of that patriarch/ matriarch. This character was typically played by Om Prakash, Utpal Dutt, Dina Pathak etc.
In “Chupke Chupke”, Om Prakash plays the character who plays the role of Sharmila Tagore’s all knowing jeeja jee. Dharmendra, husband of Sharmila Tagore whom Om Prakash has not seen decides to have some fun at the cost of the so called know all smart Alec jeeja jee. The movie then depicts how Dharmedra, alongwith others like Amitabh Bachchan, David etc take Om Prakash for a ride for much of the movie by posing as a new chauffeur of his car. One of the ways by which Dharmendra teasing Om Prakash involves using abstruse text book Hindi terms to stump Om Prakash. It is in the last reel that they finally decide to take pity of Om Prakash and come clean.
The movie had some nice songs in it. Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and Rafi. The light hearted song is picturised on Amitabh Bachchan, Rafi and Sharmila Tagore.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Peevesie. The lyrics are based on the audio of this song which is slightly longer that the video link.

Kind of which came first, the chicken or the egg routine…
But Rafi can get frisky with Kishoreda…:)

Seriously hilarious, linguistic comedy film. This song marks the end of 25 years association of SDB with Rafi. Among the 6-7 songs that Rafi sang for SDB in the 70’s. With failing health SD Burman was taking on few films with less songs. But its seems whatever he chose to have Rafi sing, were his master pieces, like “mera man tera pyaasa’ , ‘tere nainon ke main deep jalaunga’ and ‘teri bindiya re’ .
Overall, the SDB music of the 70’s is unmatched, be it ‘Abhimaan’, ‘Sharmilee’ ‘Gambler’ ‘tere mere sapne’ ‘Anuraag’ and mili, with ‘Us paar’.
