Blog Day : 3533 Post No. : 14190

“Pardesi”(1970) was a “social” movie which was produced and directed by Kundan Kumar for Kundan Films, Bombay. The movie had Biswajeet, Mumtaz, Kanan Kaushal, Sujeet Kumar, Padma, Manmohan, Sulochana, Manmohan Krishna, Brahmchaari, Shabnam, Lata Bose, Keshav Rana, Jayshree T, Geetanjali, Bhagwan Sinha, Jankidas, Har Shukla, Anand Joshi, Jugal Kishore, Dinanath, Shah, Abu Bakar, Manohar, Nishaat, Jeevan etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. Four songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the fifth song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Lata. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

I am unable to identify the lady who lip syncs the song. Is she Kanan Kaushal ? I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

Song-Mere gore ang base pyaar piya tera (Pardesi)(1970) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Chitragupta

Lyrics

mere gore ang base pyar piya tera
mera sab kuch hai tera tu hai sajan mera
din rain tohe dekh jiyoon baalma

rang mein tere rangi main chunri odh ke
rang mein tere rangi
rang mein tere rangi
main chunri audh ke
pyaari sakhiyon ki gali
chali aayi chhod ke
pyari sakhiyo ki gali
chali aayi chhod ke
pat jaise man ka khula dwaar piya tera
mera sab kuch hai tera
tu hai sajan mera
din rain tohe dekh jiyoon baalma

kuchh bhi tere siva yaad nahin chaah mein
kuch bhi tere siva
kuchh bhi tere siva yaad nahin chaah mein
teri matwaali bani
padi teri baah mein
teri matwali bani
padi teri baah mein
gale mere jhool raha haar piya tera
mera sab kuchh hai tera
tu hai sajan mera
din rain tohe dekh jiyoon baalma

aaye angna ko tere
mandir main jaan ke
aaye angana ko tere
aaye angana ko tere
mandir main jaan ke
devata kaha tujhe
aage bhagwaan ke
devata kaha tujhe
aage bhagwaan ke
maine liya naam kai baar piya tera
mera sab kuchh hai tera
tu hai sajan mera
din rain tohe dekh jiyoon baalma
mere gore ang base pyaar piya tera
mera sab kuchh hai tera
tu hai sajan mera
din rain tohe dekh jiyoon baalma

Today, 25th of October 2017, is the thirty seventh ‘remembrance anniversary’ of the great ‘poet-lyricist’ Sahir Ludhianvi. He passed away this day in 1980 leaving behind the great legacy of his poems and leaving behind his immortal poetry which people are still enjoying, discussing, and even doing research on it and writing about his life and his poetry. And like me there will be many who will agree that Sahir and his poetry will be discussed as long as Hindi Cinema and HFM exists and his poetry will be discussed so long as humanity and human relations, emotions exists.

Yesterday (31st July 2017) was the birthday of Mumtaz, one of Hindi cinema’s leading heroines in the early 70s.

Yesterday also happened to be the death anniversary of Rafisaab, and our posts were focussed on remembering him. So this post for Mumtaz is being posted a day late. Hopefully, if she is reading this, she won’t mind. 🙂

Before today, I had only heard the name. Poring through the lists of artists, one comes across so many names, and so many times, one just skips over and goes ahead.

Today, I heard his voice for the first time. And simply fell in love with it. It started with this song, and then in search of this voice, I went over the online resources, and got a chance to hear more of his songs, most of them in chaste Punjabi.  And I am thinking, what misfortune that I never got introduced to this voice earlier.
