on:I was aware of “Shaan” (1980) but it is news to me that a movie with this title was released in 1950 too. “Shaan” (1950) was a Kuldeep pictures production. It was directed by Jayant Desai. The movie had Rehman, Suraiya, Amar, David Abraham, Sapru, Pratima Devi, Cuckoo etc in it.
Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Suraiyya. Kaif Irfani is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.
Only the audio of this song is available, but it is clear that the song was picturised on Suraiyya herself.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath.
Song-Tadap ae dil tadapne se zaraa aaraam aata hai (Shaan)(1950) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Kaif Irfani, MD-Hansraj Bahl
Lyrics (Provided by Sadanand Kamath)
tadap ae dil tadapne se
zaraa aaraam aataa hai
ki lab par har tadap ke saath
unkaa naam aataa hai
jise sun kar meri duniyaa
khushi se jhoom uthati thhi
jise sun kar meri duniyaa
khushi se jhoom uthati thhi
na wo aawaaz aati hai
na wo paighaam aataa hai
tujhe main kyaa bataaun
kis tarah tujh ko ye samjhaaun
tujhe main kyaa bataaun
kis tarah tujh ko ye samjhaaun
tere aane se is dil ko
badaa aaraam aataa hai
lagaa le zor ye duniyaa
na badlegi wafaa apni
lagaa le zor ye duniyaa
na badlegi wafaa apni
badal jaaye wafaa to
ishq par ilzaam aataa hai
tadap ae dil tadapne se
zaraa aaraam aataa hai
ki lab par har tadap ke saath
unkaa naam aataa hai

It is a flawless and perfect ghazal by Kaif Irfani, who was an Urdu poet in his own right. Irfani was a lyricist with a poetic sensibility. Even outside film world, he was known as a good Urdu poet and was in huge demand in mushairas in India as well as Pakistan. It is a pity that there is dearth of material related to Kaif Irfani on internet. Those in the know should upload whatever they have so as to help his hundreds of admirers to understand this highly talented lyricist in deapth.
