In the Hindi film industry, there are 4 types of people.
The first type is of those people, who join this industry, struggle very hard and succeed in fulfilling their dreams, for example Guru Dutt, Johnny Walker, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi etc who are well known to all by now.
The second type of people are those who join the industry, struggle very hard , do not succeed and leave dejected.
The third type is those people who have a filmi connection or a strong luck, who join, struggle a bit and then succeed, like for example, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Dilip kumar, Rakesh and Rajesh Roshan, Anand Milind, Nanda, Nargis, Meena Kumari etc
And….. the fourth type is those people who join the industry, struggle very hard and succeed partially, but end up doing something else, to sustain themselves here.
The industry is full of people of the fourtth type. People who come with dreams in their eyes, but end up doing something else. People who start as a Hero in 2-3 films, settle for side roles and finally character roles, like Dev Kumar, Sujit kumar, Jeevan etc.
Not only this but we have examples where they started with something else and ended with a totally different thing and succeeded. For Example,Guru Dutt started as a Choreographer/dance Director (Lakharani-45) and ended up Actor/Director, Ashok kumar started as a Lab Technician in photography but became a great actor and Amiya Chakravarty who started as a Canteen Manager in Bombay Talkie, for whom later he directed finest movies.
In olden days,when the Studio system was there Artists used to be employed on monthly basis and they had to do whatever work was given as per their capability. For example,in Ranjit Studios over 700 people were on the rolls at one time(Government had to open a Ration shop inside the studio premises for them) from where actors were made out of script writers and Director wrote songs !
So people joined the industry with a mind prepared to do any job, to succeed in their ambitions.
MOTI SAGAR was one such person who came to the industry to become a Hero, but ended up doing sundry roles, singing songs, writing stories and scripts and producing films. He, however, could not be a great success in any of these and ended up being ‘ a jack of all trades, master of none’.
MOTI SAGAR was born in New Delhi on 16-4-1925, but graduated from Lahore. In Lahore he got interested in acting in films. Then he met Inayat Hussain and G.A.Chishti-the composers and he got interested in singing. He came to Bombay in 1946. His cousins Motilal, Mukesh and Tara Harish were already there in the films. Harish and Motilal were established, and Mukesh was trying very hard.
Moti Sagar did a second hero’s role in MALHAR-1951.
He sang his first song under Bulo C Rani in GUL SANOBER-53 with Kalyani. Then came Pamposh, Shikar, Deewali ki raat, Makkhichoos, Meri Behen and Flying Horse.
When he stopped getting songs and roles, he switched over to writing. He wrote stories for Badal, Lalkaar,Charas, Ram Bharose.
When this stopped he produced two films, namely Hum Tere Ashiq hai and Badal.
After 1985, he led a retired life till he died on 14-3-1999.
Preeti Sagar is his daughter. She too ended up as an occasional singer.

Many information about Moti Sagarji has been mixed up! Mentioned Moti sagarji in this write up, was related to Motilalji & Mukesh, but he had no relations with Ramanand Sagar. Moti sagar of Lalkar, Charas etc. was a different one & related to Ramanandji.
Our Moti sagarji had acted in several films of 50s & 60s. His roles in ‘Burmah Road’ (*Ashok Kumar) with Kumkum & ‘Chhoti Choti Baatein’ (Produced & directed by Motilalji are still remembered. ‘CCB’ had won National award of best Hindi Film of 1965. He was a good singer too.

I may be wrong, But Moti sagar directed on 1984 hindi movie namely PRERANA
starring Ashok kumar, Kiran juneja, ashok pandit, sudhir pandey and Moti sagar himself acted in this movie and written a few songs in this movie .
Moti sagar`s famous singer daughter Preeti sagar(and a lesser known daughter namita sagar)sang a few songs in that movie and music is by vijay singh

If you search smashhit.com, you will found the movie Prerarna(1984)(Inlay card of the movie shows a small picture of Moti sagar)soundtracks sung by Moti sagar himself.I think we are talking about the same Moti Sagar, who is there also in Chhoti chhoti baathein(Nadira,motilal starrer)

Moti Sagar had sing quite a few non filmy songs. I remember, we had one of his non film gramophone record.
Is he related to Ramanand Sagar?

Moti Sagar was younger brother of Ramanand Sagar. All the movies that he wrote/produced were for Sagar Arts:
-Lalkaar, Charas (directed by Ramanand Sagar)
-Ram Bharose, Badal (directed by his nephew, Anand Sagar, son of Ramanand Sagar).
-Hum Tere Aashiq Hai (directed by Prem Sagar, son of Ramanand Sagar).

As far as my information goes,there was NO relation whatsoever between Moti Sagar and Ramanand Sagar.
Ramanand Sagar was born as CHANDRAMOULI CHOPRA into a wealthy family ,near Lahore.He was adopted by his maternal grandfather Mr.Bedi who changed his name to Ramanand Bedi.
He used to write articles in papers first as Ramanand Chopra,then Ramanand Bedi,Later as Ramanand Kashmiri.
When he established Sagar Films aka Sagar arts in 1950,he chose the name Sagar simply because his office was near sea in Juhu.The name sagar stuck and he became Ramanand Sagar.
Moti Sagar was originally a Sagar from Delhi who graduated from Lahore.
Except the common name Sagar,that too by coincidence,they have NO realtion to each other.
