Sainyya se nazren milaa le

Posted on: November 6, 2012

“Baadal” (1966) was a Super Pictures Production. It was produced and directed by Aspi Irani. The movie had Sheikh Mukthar,L Vijayalaxmi, Sanjeev Kumar, Helen, Kamal Mehra, Hira Lal, Shammi Aunty, Ratnamala, Niroo, Fazal Khan, Prem, Bob, Ali Razak etc in it.

From the starcast and from those familiar with B movies in 1960s, it is clear that Sheikh Mukhtar takes care of strong arms tactics in the movie and leaves romantic stuff to Sanjeev Kumar, then a newcomer, who was gradually and steadily coming up through the ranks.

We all know that Sanjeev Kumar went on to become one of the finest actors that the Hindi movie industry had produced. He was one actor who did not care much for his filmy image and he played those roles that other actors will not touch with a barge pole. He played father to actors who were older than him :). For instance, he plays Shashi Kapoor’s father in “Trishul” (1978). He played the role of old man in several movies when he was in his 30s. He would play the lover of an actrss in one movie and her father in law in another movie- and he would carry these roles off with aplomb. Yes, he has played these roles with respect to Jaya Bhaduri in Koshish and Sholay respectively.

Today (6 novermber) is the death anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar (9 july 1938- 6 november 1985). His life style as well as his family medical history saw to it that he was snatched away from us by fate quite early. But what a career he had ! He achieved a great deal in the limited years that he had at his disposal.

On the occasion of Sanjeev Kumar’s 27th death anniversary (it is difficult to imagine that so many years have passed), here is a song from “Baadal” (1966). This song is sung by Manna Dey and it is picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and L Vijaylaxmi, with Shammi aunty and Hira Lal also visible in the picturisation. The song has Sanjeev Kumar in disguise and he is shown dancing ! Seeing Sanjeev Kumar dance is as rare a sight as seeing Dev Anand or Raj Kapoor dance, but this rare event occurs here. 🙂

Asad Bhopali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Usha Khanna.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Sainyya se najren milaa le (Baadal)(1966) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-Usha Khanna

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

man meet jogi ee
bann ke o gori
aayaa hai ab tere dwaare
do bol apne saiyyaan ke sun le ae ae ae ae
khul jaayenge bhed saare

saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
gori saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
manwaa ki batiyaan
kaahe tu chhupaaye ree
manwaa ki batiyaan
kaahe tu chhupaaye ree
saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
gori saiyyaan se najrein milaa le

palkon taley hain chamkeele sapne
sapnon mein ratiyaan suhaanee…eeee..eee
aanchaal ka palloo
chutki mein daabe
kaahe ko doley deewaani
mukhde se ghoonghat hataa le
hataa le gori
saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
gori saiyyaan se najrein milaa le

ye preet kyaa hai
ye reet kyaa hai
toone abhi tak naa jaanaa aaa aaa
ek mann ki dooje
mann ko khabar hai
tohe naa aayaa nibhaanaa
bujhte diye ko… jalaa le
jalaa le gori
saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
gori saiyyaan se najrein milaa le

hriday ki dhadkan
chaahat ki uljhan
chhupti nahin hai
chhupaaye ae ae
darpan ke aage
kyaa soche pagli
kaahe ko ankhiyaan chhuraaye
roote jiyaa ko manaa le
manaa le gori
saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
gori saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
manwaa ki batiyaan
kaahe tu chhuppaye ree
manwaa ki batiyaan
kaahe tu chhuppaye ree
saiyyaan se najrein milaa le
gori saiyyaan se najrein milaa le

I think we still miss him…his real name Harihar Jethalal Jariwala.
I love his role in Sholey, in that movie his character role is an “iconic loner” but in some other times his character closely resembles to his personality.
Almost all of his roll that he played, today those are considered in the superlatives levels and the most impressive.
He was born to act…trully a thespian .

I still love him in Mausam,He is too good, especially in his confrontation scenes with Sharmila Tagore(in Daughter`s role)
Whenever I watch that movie, Sanjeev Kumar brings tears to my eyes.

He is My mother`s favourite actor.

Happy to know he was your mom favorite 🙂
Oh, yeh…he had good role in Mausam…but I haven’t seen that movie.
Only video song of ..dil dhoodhta hai…so looking at that… I think he must had a good role to play in that movie.
