Aaja mere pyaar aaja

on:“Heeralal Pannalal” (1978) was a Rishi Art International Production. It was produced and directed by Ashok Roy. The movie had an impressive starcast consisting of names viz Shashi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Zeenat Aman, Neetu Singh, Amjad Khan, Ajit, Ranjeet, Prem Nath, Kamini Kaushal, Asrani, Madan Puri, Tuntun, P.Y.Atlekar, Leela Mishra, Ramesh Deo, Lalita Kumari, Kirti Kumar, Ratnamala, Shanti, Gurbachan, RamAvtar, Tarun Ghosh etc in it.
The movie was predominantly a light hearted movie. That included depicting policemen as comedians. That landed the producer of this movie in trouble with the censors who ordered that the movie needed to carry a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie. The disclaimer was perhaps the funniest part of the movie. It read :
We have been informed that the portrayal of the police in the film is completely unrealistc and does not properly emphasise the important role that they play in ensuring peaceful conditions and security for the community. We deeply regret the wrong portrayal which is due to our over-enthusiasm and we offer our profound apologies to the police forces of the country for the misrepresentation of their role. We also take this opportunity of reiterating the respect that not only we but every member of the society has for our police forces for the noble cause they serve in protecting life and property.
I wonder who wrote this disclaimer. 🙂 I would have loved to seek a guest article or two from him for this blog for some songs. 🙂
The above disclaimer was not the only source of inadvertent amusement in this movie. There were other such situations too. For instance, there was a song in this movie which went “aaja mere pyaar aaja”. This song became popular before the release of the movie. Music lovers, based on the audio of this song assumed that it was a love song picturised on the lead pair of the movie.
What did movie watchers discover when they watched the movie ? They found that this song was picturised on father and daughter in the movie ! I can only imagine that the song was meant to be a love song, but the overenthusiastic makers to this movie decided to take matters to their own hands and decided that they needed a father daughter song and deemed this song suitable enough to serve as such by adding monosyllable viz “Paapaa” in a kid’s voice at regular intervals. They forgot to edit out words like “Hamsafar” from the lyrics though.
In the movie, Premnath plays the father of Zeenat Aman and this song is picturised on Premnath and a young girl playing Zeenat Aman in her childhood.
A fun and detailed review of this movie is available in memsaab’s blog.
Today (21 november) is the birth anniversary of Premnath. On this occasion, here is this song from “Heeralal Pannalal” (1978). The song is sung by Hemant Kumar, with baby Jaishree Shivram uttering “Paapaa” in the song. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
This song is a nice and hummable song to listen to, in case you are able to get over the shock on realising how this song is picturised in the movie.
