Dard e dil zara zara

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

“WOW” – the first reaction from my mind when I heard this song again after a very long time today. What a pleasant, delightful creation of joyous abandon this song is. One of those apparently never ending stream of gems that keep popping up from the most unexpected corners of this treasure house that we call the Hindi film music. Wow, what a song this is – a song that has stayed obscure. . . rather I would say, it has suffered obscurity for reasons that may never be completely understood. For why else would such wonderful creations of such bubbling music stay away from limelight and away from the listening pleasure of music lovers. I am sure you will believe my words when you hear it. And its obscurity is underscored by the fact that I was not able to locate it online, so far as I could search, and so I am posting this rare gem for my listener friends.

The film itself is an unlikely candidate, that makes its debut on this blog today. ‘CID Girl’, the name of the film – taking its place right there with the rank of films with strange names that are no longer remembered. Ah but only if we would reach into the music lockbox of such films, we are sure to come up trumps with gems like this one.

A 1959 production from the banner of Shanti Niketan Films, Bombay, it is produced by Ravindra Dave and directed by PD Lamba. The star cast, somewhat impressive, includes Geeta Bali, Balraj Sahni, Subbiraj, Kanhaiyyaa Lal, Patanjali, Kumud Tripathi, Helen, Vishwa Mehra, Mohan Choti, Pal Sharma, Kathana, Shivji, Ravikant, Masood, Billoo, Shashi, Satpal, Sayyad, Rehana, Anwari Begum, Chacha ji, Ashwini Kumar etc. Incidentally, this film marks the debut of Subbiraj as an actor.

The songs of this film are written by Anand Bakshi and Hasrat Jaipuri, with this particular song coming from the pen of Anand Bakshi. The music is by Roshan. Yes, I was surprised too, when I researched to find information about this song. Or maybe not – the versatility of Roshan that could conjure up inimitable gems such as “Teri Duniya Mein Dil Lagtaa Nahin . . .” (Baawre Nain, 1950), “Na To Karvaan Ki Talaash Hai , , ,”(“Barsaat Ki Raat”, 1960), “Dil Jo Na Keh Sakaa . . .” (‘Bheegi
Raat’, 1965) and“Miley Na Phool To Kaanton Se Dosti Kar Li”(‘Anokhi Raat’, 1968), is reason enough to expect this wonderful and bubbly creation from him. This song resonates in the same genre as another joyous number from ‘Barsaat Ki Raat’ (1960) –“Mujhe Mil Gayaa Bahaana Teri Deed Ka” .

Incidentally, let me remind the readers – the debut song of this blog (on 19th July, 2008) is a song by Roshan –“Miley Na Phool To Kaanton Se Dosti Kar Li” (‘Anokhi Raat’, 1968).

From the sound of it, it seems to be a dance song. Since no video is available, it is not possible to comment on the picturization of this song.
I would request my more knowledgeable friends to please add more information about this film and this song.

And so, without much more ado, I would prompt you to go ahead and listen to this gorgeous song, rendered as a duet by Asha Bhosle and Sudha Malhotra.

Enjoy.

Song-Dard e dil zara zara (CID Girl)(1959) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Sudha Malhotra, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Roshan
Asha Bhonsle + Sudha Malhotra

Lyrics

haaye. . .
dard e dil
zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa
hans ke le
jisey miley
halkaa sa, thoda sa
mein marr gayee
dard e dil
haaye zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa

kissa hai mash’hoor
ke ik ranjhaa thhaa
ik thhi heer
eh hey hey
aa ha ha hey. . .

kissa hai mash’hoor
ke ik ranjhaa thhaa
ik thhi heer
yun ji khaaye jinhon ne
ik dujje ki
nazron waale teer

marr gaye mit gaye
haaye marr gaye mit gaye
isi ki khaatir
liyaa kalejaa cheer
mein marr gayee
dard e dil
zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa
hans ke le
jisey miley
halkaa sa, thoda sa
main marr gayee
dard e dil
haaye zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa

romeo juliet
lailaa majnu
shirin aur farhaad
eh hey hey
aa ha ha hey. . .

romeo juliet
lailaa majnu
shirin aur farhaad
arre aise kitne naam meri jaan
hongey tum ko yaad
bhari jawaani
haaye bhari jawaani
isi ki khaatir
kar gaye jo barbaad
main marr gayee
dard e dil
haaye zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa

kehne waale kehte rahey ke
jaan ka hai ye rog
eh hey hey
aa ha ha hey. . .

kehne waale kehte rahey ke
jaan ka hai ye rog
arre phir bhi duniya ko afsaane
pyaar ke de gaye log

huye deewaane
haaye huye deewaane
isi ki khaatir
jogi le gaye jog
main marr gayee
dard e dil
zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa
hans ke le
jisey miley
halkaa sa, thoda sa
main marr gayee
dard e dil
haaye zaraa zaraa
detaa hai ji badaa mazaa
