Well, yes, there is a film by the name ‘Great Show of India’. Released in 1958, it is a social drama from the banner of Chitra Bharati, Bombay. By some accounts, it appears to be a story built around a circus company. I request our more knowledgeable team members and readers to please add more information about this film. The film is directed by C M Trivedi and Chandrakant. The cast of actors includes Kamini Kaushal, Mahipal, Tiwari, Maruti, Kamal Kapoor, Mirza Musharraf, Moni Chatterjee, Kamal, Jugnu, Gamdiya, Bhujbal Singh, Reva Rakshit.
There are seven songs in this film, all from the pen of Qamar Jalaalabaadi. The music is composed by Avinash Vyas. With this song, the film ‘Great Show Of India’ makes a debut on this blog. This song here is a soft song of sadness, rendered oh so lovingly by Manna Dey.
Enjoy this rare and wonderful song, from an obscure film, whose other songs have as yet not appeared online.
Song-Meethi meethi yaad teri (Great Show Of India)(1958) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-Avinash Vyas
Lyrics
meethi meethi yaad teri
dil tadpaa gayee
meethi meethi yaad teri
dil tadpaa gayee
kaali kaali raat mere
sapnon pe chhaa gayee
dil tadpaa gayee
meethi meethi yaad teri
dil tadpaa gayee
pyaar banaane waale
kaisa ye pyaar hai
dard hi dard hai
kaanton ka haar hai
kaanton ka haar hai
un ki judaai mohey
paagal banaa gayee
dil tadpaa gayee
meethi meethi yaad teri
dil tadpaa gayee
jeevan se lambi ho gayee
birhaa ki raat re
aankhon ne meri dekho
gham ki barsaat re
gham ki barsaat re
yaad jo aayee un ki
dil ko jalaa gayee
jiyaa tadpaa gayee
meethi meethi yaad teri
dil tadpaa gayee

Derubala ji
I tried to search, but did not find a reference to ‘Circus Sundari’ in 1958.
Although I am able to locate a film by the name ‘Circus Queen’ in 1959, but that was a Nadia – John Cowas starrer.
