This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.
In March last year, when Atul ji had posted the wonderful melody “Apne Khayaalon Ko Samjha Deejiye. . .”, from the 1955 film ‘Marine Drive’, I was instantly bowled over by this stunning sound that I had then heard for the first time. And it went on to reinforce, the lofty stature of N Dutta, the music director of this film, as one of the most talented composers from the 50s and 60s.
Coming from the banner of Sippy Films, Bombay, the film is produced and directed by GP Sippy. The star cast includes Ajit, Bina Rai, KN Singh, Johnny Walker, Sohna, Hari Shivdasani, Rajan Kapoor, Uma Devi, Musaa, Vijaylaxmi. The lyrics for this film are shared between Sahir Ludhianvi and Qamar Jalaalabaadi. Of the total eight songs in this film, six come from
the pen of Sahir and two songs are written by Qamar. This particular song is from the pen of Qamar Jalaalabaadi. Of the eight songs in this film, five are already posted here. Here is the sixth, also a very melodious offering, for your listening pleasure.
This is a dance song performed in a restaurant. I am not able to definitely place a name to the face, that performs this song on screen. Is it Sohna? Or is it Vijaylaxmi? I request my learned friends and readers to help in the identification of the dancer. The other main character is very recognizable. K N Singh is the focus of attention of the dancer, and also of
some of the other guests seated on a nearby table.
“Duniya Ko Maar Do Bam. . .” – ‘Let the world be damned’. What a rollicking and care free expression, especially when coming from a heart seeking love.
Go ahead and listen to this lovely melody. And enjoy.

duniya ko maar do bam
aji tum
aur hum
hom saath saath
aur mast raat
duniya ko maar do bam
rangeen bahaar ayee
pehloo mein pyaar laayee
rangeen bahaar ayee
pehloo mein pyaar laayee
milne ki shaam
aankhoin mein jaam
zaraa dil ko thaam baalam

aur mast raat
duniya ko maar do bam

Nitin ji
With due respect to your opinion,
I beg to differ
Its not Vijayalaxmi, on vijayalaxmi a song was picturised in the movie, which was posted 2 days before in the blog as a tribute to G.P.Sippy.
She is Nilofar, who was in the most of the films of N.A. Ansari & was also in some other movies. had a big role in ‘The Adventures of Robinhood’
* Prashant & Pervin Chaudhari.
