Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Tera kaanton se pyaar

Posted on: February 4, 2013

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

This is one more duet by Mohammed Rafi and Geeta Dutt from the film ‘Chunariya’ (1948). Music Director is Hansraj Behl and lyricist is Mulkraj Bhakri. Four songs of this film are already posted in the blog and none of them are having video links. The songs of this film are specially poignant with these two solos by Lata and Rafi, viz. Dil e nashaad ko jeene ki hasrat ho gayee tumse and Sab kuchh lutaayaa hamne aakar teri gali mein. The song I am discussing also just has an audio link. But from the tone of the song I can guess that it is a ‘ beggar’s song ‘. The words are not really begging but the composition is such that it can not fit any other situation.

The information contained in the excel sheet of Rafi songs, is proving to be little unreliable in terms of the last column i.e.’picturized’. As for this song, it says in the sheet that it is on ‘Randheer’. I have no way of collaborating this info.

Till we have access to the online ‘Geet kosh’ we have to make do with this list only, I guess. At least when video is not available, as is the case of songs of this film. I request our in house encyclopedia Shri. Arunkumar Deshmukh Sir, to provide the missing information and details of the story etc.

nahm ji,
Since I had not seen Chunaria-48,I have no details of the film’s storyline etc.
However,as per the info available in the HFGK,the cast included manorama and Wasti as a leading pair, with Randhir,Pran,Cuckoo etc.
Not ALL entries in ‘Pictured on’ can be wrong in the excel sheet,so we can take it as this song must be pictured on Randhir. He is one of the cast,as such.
One more point. The HFGK mentions that it is this Film in which Asha Bhosle sang her FIRST Hindi film song. The song was-“Saawan aaya re,jaage mere bhaag” along with geeta and Zohrabai.
