Remembering Talat Mehmood (24 february 1924- 9 may 1998) on the anniversary of his birth today(24 february 2013).
The soft velvety voice that has lent itself to a wonderful array of musical creations, and made an indelible mark in the annals of Hindi film and non-film music. Whether the song is of happiness or it is of sadness, the first thing that comes to mind on hearing Talat Sb’s voice begin to sing, is a feeling of utmost comfort. A feeling that releases all other compulsions in the mind, and the mind wants to sit back and relax and just listen to this soft sound serenading the matters of heart.
This song is a forgotten gem from an unreleased film from the 1960s. The film is ‘Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke’. Not much other information is available about this film, except that it was planned under the banner of Ismail Films. Thankfully, the songs of this film got recorded and this treasure has escaped the anonymity of extinction. Whether the film storyline or the cast of actors was decided or not, is not known. But the information about the music of this film is known, based on three 78 rpm records that did get made for this film. The music is by the redoubtable Khayyaam Sb. The authorship of the six available songs is shared between Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and Jaan Nissar Akhtar. This particular song is written by Jaan Nissar Akhtar Sb.

Beautiful and perfect words to express the feelings that we feel upon hearing Talat Saab’s voice! I Always like the songs that uplift oneself and encourages to carry on the journey called ‘life’ ! Khayyam saab’s music? simply great !
Our tributes to Talat Saab on his birth anniversary! He has given us many many gems to cherish and savor! very difficult to choose the most favorite of them.. all of them are priceless gems ..! thanks again!

First of all HUM HAIN RAAHI PYAR KE seems music of 1960 and not 1950.No doubt talatsaheb’s voice is silken,I always liked his voice.words
are gems from the pen.There are many songs like this song…aadmi woh hai jo khela kare toofanon se.rafi in BETI BETE,Zindagi sehra bhi hai aur zindagi gulshan bhi hai,lata in KAHIN AUR CHAL.Zindagi ek safar hai suhana..kishore in ANDAZ..and many more.

Thanks for remembering Talat Saab’s b’day and introducing this song. Never heard before, may be because it’s from URF. Any idea on who is playing the sarod? Is he the the great maestro Ali Akbar Khan?
