Lo bhor huyi panchhi nikley

Posted on: February 25, 2013

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

This song is a title song picturized with the titles of the film. Come to think of it, Jagdeep was lip synching Rafi songs as far back as in 1956. In this song, he is doing a Charlie Chaplin like comeo scene of getting up in the morning and greeting the birds, hence the song is ‘ lo bhor huyi panchhi nikle ‘ .

As seen in the titles there are four lyricist in this film namely Zia Sarhady, Vishwamitra Aadil, Prem Dhawan & Shailendra.

The excel sheet of all Rafi songs has this song as penned by Shailendra while the link of youtube said it is written by Zia Sarhady. I looked at the four songs already posted in the blog. But could not resolve the issue of lyricist for this particular song.

As advised by ‘blufire’ ji, I checked at myswar.com and the name of Shailendra as lyricist of this song is confirmed by it.

I found the details about the film and also a brief life story of writer/ director of the film Zia Sarhady given by our own in house encyclopedia Arunkumar Deshmmukh Sir, reproduced below:

AAWAZ(1956) was a Mehboob production, directed by Zia Sarhadi. The story was by his Russian wife-Henrietta Zia, dialogues and few songs were written by him(there were 3 more lyricists also).

ZIA SARHADI who was dubbed as “unaffiliated Marxist” had made all his film inclined towards Soviet style socialism. In his films, there used to be a class struggle and an emphasis on the myth that all rich people are bad and all poor are exploited.

Aawaz was also one such story of a Rich industrialist and the sad story of his foreman/masterjee Bhatnagar played soulfully by Nazir Hussain. The story was full of melodrama, tragedy and criticism of the system/establishment and exploitation. Added to it were the Dowry and sexual exploitation(both by rich on the poor) problems.

Zia Sarhadi was born in Peshawar in 1914. He came to Bombay to help friend Mahboob Khan in the film ‘Deccan Queen’-1936, an action thriller. In this film he did the story, dialogues, screeplay/lyrics and direction. He was an actor, director and lyricist for many films upto 1956. He migrated to Pakistan in 1957 and made only one film, Rahguzar. Due to his philosophy he got entangled with Pak censors and then General Ayub Khan was after him. He was arrested for sedition and tortured in jail.

He shifted to London as a compromise and lived there for 15 years in self exile. He died unsung in Madrid, Spain in November 1996.

He will be remembered for Footpath-53,Humlog-51, Badi Maa-45 and for dialogues of Baiju Bawra-52.

Shailendra has come up with some innovative concepts in the lyrics fo this song. For example

suraj ke ugte hi dekho
duniya mein yeh kaisi aag lagi
kya koyi bhi tadbeer nahin
iss aag mein aag lagaane ki
chakkar khaati duniyaa ke sang
ham sab kyun chakkar khaate hain

The audio link for this song is slightly shorter with one stanza less and video is longer, so the lyrics are as per video of the song.

The singer is Rafi and Music is by Salil Chaudhary.
