Ye silsila pyaar se chalaa

“Zehreela Insaan”(1974), Rishi Kapoor’s second release flopped badly at the box-office. Prakashchandra, a dedicated contributor to this blog, has commented on it here. This film was also the first one to have Rishi-Neetu pairing. Rishi Kapoor has two heroines to romance in this film. The first is Moushumi Chatterjee, whose father marries her off to somebody else. His sadness at the loss is short, he meets another girl at his college with whom he falls in love with. The song yeh silsila pyaar se chalaa marks the beginning of this tempestuous love story.
Why tempestuous? Well, she is from a different religion. She is a Christian. That reminds me of a funny incident in my childhood. I must have been 9 or 10 years old when I saw this film on DD. The name of the character played by Neetu Singh has the name Margaret. Everytime she is called “Margaret”, I heard it as “Market”. I was left wondering why anybody should be called market.
Nevertheless, the film it seems has left an indelible mark in my memory. Despite all these years and never having viewed the film, I could still remember the story line. That says something.
Song-Yeh silsila pyaar se chalaa (Zehreela Insaan)(1974) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
ho chalte chalte
mera tera sangam
hua oo oo
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
yeh main na jaanoon
hai pasand tujhe kitna
seene mein tere dil
rakh diya apnaa
yeh main na jaanoon
hai pasand tujhe kitna
seene mein tere dil
rakh diya apnaa
teri nazar se bandhaa hai
meraa sapnaa
aa jaa mere pyaar
aa jaa re,
aa jaa re
aa jaa,
aa jaa,
aa jaa
oo oo oo
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
ho chalte chalte
mera tera sangam
hua oo oo
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
aa teri baahon pe gira doon
main yeh zulfein
aa tere seene pe jhuka doon
lambi palkein
aa teri baahon pe gira doon
main yeh zulfein
aa tere seene pe jhuka doon
lambi palkein
dil dono ras ke katore
jaise chalken
aa jaa mere pyaar
aa jaa re,
aa jaa re
aa jaa
aa jaa
aa jaa
oo oo oo
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
ho chalte chalte
mera tera sangam
hua oo oo
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
yeh silsila
pyaar se chalaa
yeh laa laa laa
laa laa laa

Atulji,
“This article is written by Pamir Harvey, a fellow………………..” is missing as a title of the post. Thanks to Prakashji who mentioned Harveyji’s name in his comment, warna main to aapko hi ye comment likhne waali thi, about “Margaret” 🙂
Achha, to Harveji, main ye soch rahi thi ki kabhi aapne “Market” mein jaake “Margaret” ke baare mein poochha thha? 😆 Galatphemi door ho jaati na! Ek 9 ya 10 saal ka bachha kitne saalon tak achhi neend bhi nahin so paaya hoga. 😦 Just kidding.

Anyways thanks for the nice post and the lyrics,
this song I first heard in H.M.V. 4 cassette compilation of Asha Sings for R.D.Buman. and fell love with it, That too, when Asha ji sings “huaa…oo ooo oo” and once Rishi kapoor also joins on screen- That singing piece is favourite of mine and the entire song is very good. Asha -Pancham combination rocks.
