Ashqon ki kahaani kyaa kahiye

Posted on: March 18, 2013

“Do Roti” (1957) was produced and directed by Ismail Memon. The movie had Nirupa Roy, Balraj Sahni, Mehmood, Johnny Walker, Nazir Hussain, Anju, Minoo Mumtaz, Kanhaiyalal etc in it.

Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fifth song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata. Khumar Barabankwi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Roshan.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to say how and on whom this song is picturised though I can hazard a guess that this song may have been picturised on Nirupa Roy. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Ashqon ki kahaani kyaa kahiye (Do Roti)(1957) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Khumar Barabankwi, MD-Roshan

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

ashqon ki kahaani kya kahiye
aahon ka fasaana kya kahiye
hans hans ke rulaata hai kaise
bedard zamana kya kahiye
ashqon ki kahaani kya kahiye

jab chaandni raaten hoti thhin
jab pyaar ki baaten hoti thhin
jab pyaar ki baaten hoti thhin
ab tak jo basa hai aankhon mein
ab tak jo basa hai aankhon mein
wo khwaab suhaana kya kahiye
ashqon ki kahani kya kahiye

jeewan ke chaman tak aate hi
rangeen bahaaren laut gayin
rangeen bahaaren laut gain
hoooo
roothi huyi qismat ka haaye
roothi huyi qismat ka haaye
bharpoor nishaana kya kahiye
ashqon ki kahaani kya kahiye

maana ke sitamgar duniya hai
sun’ne ke liye betaab magar
sun’ne ke liye betaab magar
jab wo nahin sun’ne waalon mein
jab wo nahin sun’ne waalon mein
phir apna fasaana kya kahiye
ashqon ki kahaani kya kahiye
aahon ka fasaana kya kahiye
hans hans ke rulaata hai kaise
bedard zamaana kya kahiye
ashqon ki kahaani kya kahiye

We were part of a circle ,old music lovers ,every two three months visit some silent place to enjoy the music for one and half day, everybody used to bring some songs, parti.new addition since last visit, one time in 1991,I brought THIS song in very good reproduction form,in cassette, while we all heard this song, everybody was eager to say one thing EXCELLENT,every body who had contributed in this song ,was at his top.LATAJI had given the meximum to make this song IMMORTAL.
Its good that video is not available ,in my opinion some time in B/W movies,a good song on radio ,damages the image on seeing the video of what we think, without seeing the video, and in video the charm of song is not maintained due to cuts in prints, and recording of shooting was done in hurry,I mean recording for 78 rpm was appropriate, and done with full attention.I can quote examples hunderds ,Plz write abt your opinions here .Thanks..

Dubeji,
Good that it was also your fav song. Its same as reading a book and seeing its fictionalized film version.Obviously you enjoy the book because your imagination runs wild. eg Papillon, The Day of Jackal, Saraswatichandra. Can you stand the cannibalized TV version of Saraswatichandra. Same think Bhansali did to Devdas. Anyday books are better. Thanks

I fully agree, further, artificial acting by Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai (I will call their acting as fully expression less and childish)and dry chemistry between them fully destroyed my imagination of Devdas. They made it unbearable to watch, atleast for me.

Some movies like Devdas and Saraswatichandra has to be in B&W. If at all remakes have to be made then it should be in B&W
