Ghar hamne le liya hai tere ghar ke saamne

Posted on: April 23, 2013

This article is written by Sadanand Kamath, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

HAMAARI BAAT (1943) was produced under the banner of Bombay Talkies and directed by M I Dharmsey. Devika Rani and Jairaj were in the lead roles with, David, Shah Nawaz, Mumtaz Ali, Kamta Prasad, Raj Kapoor and Suraiya in supporting roles. This was the last film in which Devika Rani acted. As per http://www.myswar.com, there were 10 songs in the film all being penned by Pandit Narendra Sharma. Anil Biswas was the music director of the film.

I was planning to write an article on Pandit Narendra Sharma on the occasion of his birth centenary on February 28, 2013 and the song I selected was an unusual song ‘ bistar bichhaa diyaa hai tere dar ke saamne’ written by him for the film. Some how I missed the date and it was only when Sudhir wrote an article ae baad-e-sabaa ithhlaati na aa on the occasion of his birth centenary that I was reminded of my missed target. Then I consoled myself that being his centenary year, I can discuss a song penned by him any time during the year.

In the mean while, I got some doubt whether this unusual song was really penned by Pandit Narendra Sharma. First I checked on http://www.gitaayan.com where under ‘Surveykshan’ there is a a complete list of filmography of Anil Biswas which appears to be a copy from Hindi Film Geet Kosh (HFGK). The song under discussion was accredited to Wali Saheb. Next, I checked on http://www.earthmusic where the name of Wali Saheb is mentioned against the entry of this song. With the uncertainty about the author of this song, I did not consider it for discussing this song on the occasion of the birth centenary year of Pandit Narendra Sharma. Instead I felt that it would be a good idea to discuss the songs written by him intermittently in the blog in such a way that his songs attain a century mark before the end of his birth centenary year.

The song ‘bistar bichhaa diya hai tere dar ke saamne’ sung by Arun Kumar Mukherjee and Suraiya is a teasing song full of fun elements. The music at the end of song gives me a feeling that it may be a stage song. Being a law student myself, I am amused by a legal reference in this song. When the male actor says ‘aa jaaunga main aapki motor ke saamne’ ( I will come in front of your car), the female actor gives him a rejoinder ‘main khudkushi ke jurm mein karwaan doongi giraftaar’ ( I will get you arrested for the crime of suicide). Kudos for the writer of the song for being aware of section 309 of Indian Penal Code, 1860 under which attempting suicide is a punishable crime.

Only the audio clip of the song is available. While it appears to be a stage song and Suraiya is one of the performer, it is difficult to guess about the identity of the male performer.

This song probably was the source of inspirationbehind the title of Navketan Films movie ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ (1963) 🙂

Song-Ghar hamne le liya hai tere ghar ke saamne (Hamaari Baat)(1943) Singers-Arun Kumar Mukherjee, Suraiya, Lyrics-Pt Narendra Sharma, MD-Anil Biswas

Lyrics

bistar bichhaa diyaa hai

haan haan ji dekhna
dekho ji dekhna
aa jaaunga main
mazaak nahi bataaye detaa hoon haan
aa jaaunga main aapki motor ke saamne
haan haan motor ke saamne
ghar hamne le liyaa hai
tere ghar ke saamne

main khudkushi ke jurm mein karwaa doon giraftaar
main khudkushi ke jurm mein karwaa doon giraftaar
karwaa doon giraftaar
karwaa doon giraftaar
dekhoongi
hmm
dekhoongi kyaa kahoge collector ke saamne
o collector ke saamne
ghar hamne le liyaa hai
tere ghar ke saamne

seene se dil nikaal kar
o seene se dil nikaal kar
rakh doongaa aa
rakh doongaa mez par
phir dil ka rang
hmm
phir dil ka rang dekhiye nashtar ke saamne

tere bade aaye ghar lene waale

nachoonga is tarah se ishaaron pe aapke
naachoonga
naachoonga
naachoonga
naachoonga
naachoonga is tarah se ishaaron pe aapke
bandar jo naachta hai
bandar jo
bandar jo naachta hai kalandar ke saamne
o kalandar ke saamne
ghar hamne le liyaa hai
tere ghar ke saamne

Sadanand ji,
According to Firoz Rangoonwala in his book, the performers on stage are Mumtaz Ali and Suraiyya.
