Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Dil ne usey maan liyaa

Posted on: July 20, 2013

Today (20 july 2013) is the 84th birth anniversary of Rajendra Kumar (20 july 1929- 12 july 1999). So this calls for a song picturised on him.

Now, discussing a song picturised on him is no problem. He has worked as hero in many hit movies and lip synced many songs.

Even a casual music lover would know that most songs picturised on Rajendra Kumar have been sung by Rafi. In fact, that is true for most actors of those days, and not just Rajendra Kumar.

It does not mean that other singers have not sung for Rajendra Kumar. Singers like Mukesh, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Subir Sen, Yesudas etc have given playback for Rajendra Kumar.

I wanted to discuss a non Rafi song on the occasion. I found that most such songs have already been discussed in the past.

I kept on searching nevertheless. And I managed to find a non Rafi song picturised on Rajendra Kumar that has not been discussed so far.

This song is sung by Mukesh and it is from “Santaan”(1959). This movie was produced by Mahesh Kaul and directed by Jyoti Swaroop for Anupam Chitra Production. The movie had Rajendra Kumar, Kamini Kadam, Nazir Hussain ,Rita Roy, Dulaari, Leela Mishra, Manorama,David Abraham etc in it. One song from this movie has been discussed in the past.

So here is this rare song from an obscure movie on the occasion of Rajendra Kumar’s birth anniversary.

Dil ne usey maan liya
jiska andaaz naya
shokh aanchal ke taley
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
dil ne usey maan liyaa
jiska andaaz naya
shokh aanchal ke taley
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
dil ne usey maan liyaa

unki aankhon ki chamak
jaise heeron ki damak
haaye rangeen ada
ham to jaayenge behak
unki aankhon ki chamak
jaise heeron ki damak
haaye rangeen ada
ham to jaayenge behak
ham to jaayenge behak
hamne wo pyaar kiya
jiska andaaz naya
shokh aanchal ke taley
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
dil ne usey maan liyaa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

koi tasweer bani
aaj taqdeer bani
zulf chehre pe jhuki
wohi zanjeer bani
koi tasweer bani
aaj taqdeer bani
zulf chehre pe jhuki
wohi zanjeer bani
wohi zanjeer bani
dil se dil baandh liya
jiska andaaz naya
shokh aanchal ke taley
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
dil ne usey maan liyaa

aake sapnon mein sada
le gaye dil ko chura
hamne to dhoondh liya
aankhon mein qaid kiya
aake sapnon mein sada
le gaye dil ko chura
hamne to dhoondh liya
aankhon mein qaid kiya
aankhon mein qaid kiya
unko di aisi sazaa
jiska andaaz naya
shokh aanchal ke taley
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
dil ne usey maan liyaa
jiska andaaz naya
shokh aanchal ke taley
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
aashiyaan ban hi gaya
dil ne usey maan liyaa

One of my fave Mukesh numbers. I was on school then, in Delhi, when I heard this song.It is still fresh in my memory. Mukesh-ji’s nasal twang is very evident!! (no criticism, though.)

Same situation, same pair, same beginning of the song (Kamini Kadam holding an open umbrella in her hand 😉 ) and yes, non Rafi song for Rajendra Kumar. Film-Talaaq-58, song Mere Jeewan me kiran banke bikharne waale….. by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. Both these songs are special in their own way. Thanks Atulji for the song.
(Just see at 0:16 on this clip)

Atul ji,

Lyricist name to be added in the tags. Now, its seems as if the composer himself wrote the lyrics.
