Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Patiyaan pathikwaa

Posted on: August 17, 2013

During the earlier days of the blog, I discussed a few songs of my liking in the blog on a daily basis and that was all there was to the blog.

But with the blog gradually evolving and taking on a more complex form, nowadays I have to take many factors into consideration that I did not have to in the earlier simpler days.

These days, I have to think of giving representations to various artists, contributors, movies etc based on factors like anniversaries, milestones etc. These days we consciously keep a watch over anniversaries, count of songs etc and try to post appropriate songs at the right moment.

One of the latest factor that we take into consideration while discussing songs is movies with all songs discussed. It gives us a feeling of satisfaction when we realise that all the songs of certain movies have been discussed and we no longer need to look for more songs from the movie. HFGK (Hindi Film Geek Kosh) and sources that draw upon it (viz myswar) serve as the references to check it out.

Sometimes finding the last few songs of a movie turns out to be tough because these songs are often elusive songs which are not easily available. There have been cases when these missing songs had to be uploaded from our own collections.

Then there is another rare kind of a situation where we have discussed all the songs according the the records of HFGK, but it turns out that there are more songs in the movie that are available online but are not mentioned in the HFGK. This happens in case of songs which were picturised but records of these songs were not made.

According to myswar, “Shabaab” (1954) had fifteen songs in it. Three sets of these songs are what we call multiple version songs in the blog, in the sense that we treat them as one song but they are counted as two songs for the purpose of counting of songs. Thus we have songs viz.
Chandan ka palnaa resham ki dori , Jogan ban jaaungi sainyya tore kaaran and Marna teri gali mein which are in fact six songs and not three songs.

That being the case, this blog had already covered all the fifteen songs of this movie on 27 april 2013 itself when a Shamshad Begam song from this movie was discussed as a tribute to her. But I was not aware of that fact at that time.

Today I discussed the same song again and this time with the triumphant announcement that all the songs of this movie were already discussed. Our alert reader Shekhar Gupta rightly pointed out that this Shamshad Begam song was already discussed in the past. He pointed out that “jogan ban aayee hoon” as distinct from “jogan ban jaaungi” was the missing song. Well, these two songs were a set of multiple version song and they have been discussed in the past under the title of Jogan ban jaaungi sainyya tore kaaran .

The fact is, all 15 songs of “Shabaab” (1954) as listed in myswar has already been discussed. But while going through the list of songs in this movie, I came to realise that there was a sixteenth song in the movie too, which was not mentioned in myswar. I am not aware whether this song is mentioned in HFGK or not. This song finds no mention on internet and it was not there on YT either. But the fact is this song was there in “Shabaab” (1954).

Here is the sixteenth and final song from “Shabaab” (1954). This rare song is a classical song which is sung by Ustaad Ameer Khan. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

Only the audio of this song is available. I am hopeful that the video of this song too may be available somewhere.

Since it is a classical song, the lyrics of the song are not too long but at the same time noting them down accuraely is not a cakewalk either. There are several gaps in the lyrics taht I have noted down. I am sure that we will be able to fill up the gaps with the help of readers with keener ears.

So here is this rare song from “Shabaab” (1956) which few music lovers may have heard before if they are like me. 🙂

Wasn’t audio of this number posted as “Jhoomar gaaye gori re paayal baaje tori re” on 26 April 2013 already?

It seems that “Jogan ban aayee hoon” (separate from “Jogan ban jaaoongi”) is still missing (not on the Shabaab songs list). It is on YouTube at http://youtu.be/i1eJJA7WqOk.

It turns out that all 15 songs of “Shabaab” had been discussed in the past, including the one mentioned by you (as multiple version song).

Here is the sixteenth song from the movie which is not mentioned in myswar (I am not sure about HFGK though).

Atul ji,
As per HFGK, there are 15 songs in Shabab, out of which 13 songs including multiple version songs are posted already.
Today’s song does not feature in HFGK. Probably it was played only in background in the film. The only Amir khan song in Shabab-Daya kar Giridhar Gopal was posted on 5-5-2013.
As per HFGK 2 more songs still remain from Shabab to be posted-
1. Sangeet hai shakti Ishwar ki,har sur mein base hain Ram-by Hemant kumar and
2. Ishq mein tere pahni hai kafni…Jogan ban ayee hoon by Lata. (This song is different from Jogan ban jaungi-already posted). This is available on UT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1eJJA7WqOk

A correction–

Sangeet hai shakti ishwar ki-hemant kumar is the same song as the duet of Lata/Hemant- Chandan ka Palna..
So.now only the Lata solo number is remaining to be posted.
regret the slip.

Atul ji, In the first part the singer does sound like Ut Amir Khan saheb, but definitely not in Tarana part, not only the voice is different but style of Tarana singing is different. It is true that Amir Khan saheb cut few records by the name Amir Ali in 1934, but AFAIK in Shabab days i.e. in 50s he was known as Amir Khan only.
