Hullo to all in Atuldom
13 october is one of the days in our blog calendar where two people are remembered. One is the death anniversary and another is the concerned person’s birth anniversary.
So here is wishing our Dadamoni (Ashok Kumar) a very Happy Birthday.
I remember the year was 1987. The reliance world cup matches were on. I was in the final year of college and we were put up in college for a week as part of some training. That is when we got the news of the (sad for all his admirers) demise of the one and only Kishore Kumar.
Now to remember him we can have any song sung by him. But to find a song where he has sung for his brother (Ashok Kumar) is not very difficult. Of hand one can remember “Do Bechare Bina Sahaare” from Victoria No. 203. That is for people who were kids in the 70s. There will definitely have been many more even in the 70s/80s. But I have zeroed in on this song from “Khatta Meetha” (1977) which is written by Gulzar and Music director was Rajesh Roshan.
I have read an article somewhere which said that Dadamoni stopped celebrating his birthday after Kishore Kumar’s death as they fall on the same day. Don’t know how far that is true.

Oh, I wasn’t aware that KK died on the birthday of AK. 😦
The brothers were a great gift to Indian Cinema. An actor like Ashok Kumar cannot be born again. He was extremely natural, so natural that he never got credited for great acting. He managed to fit into each decade of his life with such wonderful age-appropriate roles.
He was the rare actor for whom one can never say – He was great early on in his career, not later. That is because he maintained the dignity of his age and took on roles accordingly.
As for Kishore Kumar, he shone as an actor, singer, music director; in short, practically every role he chose.
You have chosen a lovely song from a lovely film, Nahm. Thank you.
