“Waaman Avtaar” (1955) was a Bombay Films production. It was directed by Raman B Desai. The movie had Trilok Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, Bipin Gupta, Sapru, Roop Kumar, Yashodhara Katju etc in it.

Today (3 november 2013) is Deepawali, the festival of lights. On this occasion, here is a deepawali song from “Waaman Avtaar” (1955). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Rafi and chorus. The song is picturised on Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor (I hope I have identified him correctly) and others.

Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Avinash Vyas.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

I take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy, prosperous and safe deepawali.

aa aa aa aa

aa aa aa
jal jal jal
jal re deepak jal
jal jal jal

o o o o

kaali kaali raat niraali
aaj deewaali matwaali ee
jal re deepak jal jal
jal re deepak jal

ho o o
andhiyaaron ka kaala parda
gyaan ke deepak cheer nikal

mehlon se lekar kutiyon tak
aasha ke deepak machal machal
jal jal jal
jal re deepak jal

o o
tim tim timatim
tim tim timatim
dekh taaron ka chanda per jhoola jhoolo

chanda per jhoola jhoolo

ho o o
pal mein hanseele
pal mein laajeele
tere do naina chamkeele
khel khel ke rang badal

jal jal jal
jal re deepak jal

ho o o
o o o o
tumse milkar sur mera pancham
naache man ka mor
khushi mein
chham chham chhama chham chham

chhedo sargam tumhaare hum
chhedo sargam tumhare ham

ooooo oooo
madhur madhur sur ki sargam
ghar ban jal mein uchhal uchhal
jal jal jal
jal re deepak jal
kaali kaali raat niraali
aaj deewaali matwaali ee
jal re deepak jal jal
jal re deepak jal
pragat huyi hai pratham diwaali
gaao bajaao de do taali

Wonder why Radio Ceylon never played this beautiful number on Deepavali. Am hearing it for the first time. Many thanks.

Sorry, You are again not right! Actor with Nirupa Roy is Sapru, & not Trilok Kapoor! In the film, Sapru played the main role of Bali Raja.

Thanks for the identification. I am very week in identifying old actresses, and as it turns out, old actors too. 🙂
