The one thought that comes to mind always, when this name is mentioned,
“. . . ke dil abhi bharaa nahin”.
Remembering Jaidev on the anniversary of his passing away (6th January).
An unsung and a neglected talent in the industry. And yet an artist who was quite content with his work. One of the very few artists in this industry, who followed the art for the sake of art only. For him, music was the only life, and the life was all about music only. In a career that lasted well over three decades, his total outings as an independent music director, will probably number less than 50. And some four to five of these 50 have remained unreleased, and hence unappreciated. And so many of his other work remains buried and unacknowledged with obscure films like ‘Aashaad Ka Ek Din’ (1971), ‘Azaadi Ke Pachees Baras’ (1972), ‘Ek Naya Itihaas’ (1983), ‘Trikon Ka Chautha Konaa’ (1986).
But of course, he is also known for his runaway success of his music with films like ‘Hum Dono’ (1961), ‘Kinaare Kinaare’ (1963), ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’(1963), ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ (1971), ‘Gharaonda’ (1977), ‘Gaman’ (1979), ‘Dooriyaan’ (1979) and ‘Ankahee’ (1985). Of the films in this list, three went on to be recognized as the best creations in their respective years, being honored with the National Film Award for Best Music Direction –‘Reshma Aur Shera’, ‘Gaman’ and ‘Ankahee’.
What more to say, that has not been said before.
Maybe “Aapki Yaad Aati Rahi Raat Bhar”.
The song in this post is from his very first film as an independent music director – ‘Joru Ka Bhai’ from 1955. Chetan Anand gave Jaidev his first break with this film. Produced and directed by Chetan Anand for Mahshakti Films, Bombay, the star cast of the film includes Balraj Sahni, Sheela Ramani, Johnny Walker, Rasheed Khan, Praveen Pal, Kumkum, Radhika, and Vijay Anand. The ten songs in this film were shared between three poets – Sahir, Vishwamitra Adil and Narendra Sharma. This song is by Narendra Sharma, his only contribution in this film. YouTube post indicates this to be written by Sahir, but the Geet Kosh lists this as a song by Narendrs Sharma.
The song itself is a gem of a semi classical creation, to be enjoyed. Presented as a thumri, Jaidev chose Asha Bhosle to render this lovely classical piece. And Asha ji has made a the entire three minutes of this song, worth the while. Beautiful. And a listening pleasure. Enjoy.

Yesterday vividhbharati broadcasted one jaidev composed song, I am not able to find out the film name of that song, I am not even able to register the first lines of the song, but it is a duet, and female singer sang the lines kaare kaare badra or kaale kaale badal. Female singer sounded like asha bhosle and the male singer may be hariharan or bhupinder or suresh wadkar.
Do you know that song ?(Achanak mujhe aapki yaad aa gayee, kal raat aur subah aapse poochhne ka mann huaa)
I am confused about this and searched for it without any results. By chance If you know the movie name or the song lyrics, please help me.
Vividhbharathi broadcasted that song in its daily programmed “Aaj ke fankaar”(based on Jaidev songs)
