“Kaajal”(1965) was directed by Ram Maheshwari for Kalpanalok. The movie had Raj Kumar, Meena Kumari, Dharmendra, Padmini, Mumtaz, Satish Kumar, Jagirdar, Mehmood, Durga Khote, Tiwari, Helen, Madhu Apte etc in it.
Seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the eighth song from the movie. This song had Raj Kumar and Meena Kumari playing a drunkard and kotha visiting husband and a pious and devout housewife respectively. Here is a song from the movie that underlines this fact. Meena Kumari lip syncs a one stanza of bhajan in her home whereas the next stanza is lip synced by Raj Kumar in a drunken state in a kotha. This continues for six stanzas- viz three stanzas for each of them.
The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.
Only the audio of this song is available, but those familiar with the story line can guess how the song must have been picturised. For once, I count myself among those who are familar with the story of this movie. 🙂

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Kabeeraa nirbhay raam jape
jab lag dee mein baatee
tel ghataa baatee bujhee
sovega din raatee
mehfil mein teri yoon hi rahe
jashn e charaagaan
aankhon mein hi ye raat
guzar jaaye to achhaa aa
saanch baraabar tap nahin
jhooth baraabar paap
jaa ke hirday saanch hai
ta hriday guru aap
jaa kar teri mehfil se
kahaan chain milegaa aa
ab apni jagah apni
khabar jaaye to achchha
jab main thhaa tab hari nahin
ab hari hai main naahee
Sab andhiyaaraa mit gayaa
jab deepak dekhaa maahee
jis subah ki taqdeer mein
likkhhee ho judaayee ee
Us subah se pehle
koyee mar jaaye to achchha
koyee mar jaaye to achchha

Ravi was a much under rated composer, while all the while churning out gem after gem.
Thanks, mate.
