Loota hai toone mujhe

Fortunately or unfortunately (for my friends, readers and followers) I belong to the variety of people who take pleasure in bringing out the hidden rare gems from HFM, usually from the 60s and the 70s. n keeping with my passion for “Rare Hindi Film Songs” (RHFS is my group on FB), today, I present a forgotten gem from a movie – “Raftaar” released in 1975.

Some famous songs of this movie have been discussed in this blog viz. “Main teri Heer hoon teri taqdeer hoon” posted by “Atul” on the March 20, 2012 and “Sansaar hai ek nadiya” by a fellow contributor “nahm” on the June 9, 2014 while my writeup on “Ye Kaisi Lagi Agan” was discussed recently on 19 july 2014.

Although the most popular ones from the movie have already been covered, the one which I present below is no less in its melody, orchestration and best of all, the singing of Asha Bhosle Ji.

Here are the details of the story of the movie:

Raftaar is a 1975 movie, with Censor Board’s “U” Certificate Number 77082 issues on 1st February 1975. The length of the movie is 3813.02 meters (15 reels) and produced under the banner of Chitralekha Movies. The producer of the movie is S I Shivdasani and the director is Dinesh – Ramnesh.

The movie starred Vinod Mehra, Moushumi Chatterjee, Danny Denzongpa, Arpana Choudhary, Ranjeet, Madan Puri, Sunder, Kundan, Indira Bansal, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Jankidas, Lalita Kumari, Moolchand, Manisha, Ruby Mayers, Mohan Sherry, etc.

Earlier in the movie when Vikram is sent to the city on a business trip, Kumar rapes Rani. Humiliated, she throws herself in the river only to be saved by a good sanaritan of a great singer/violinist Mr. Jackson (Madan Puri). He adopts Rani and christians her as Rita. Kumar vecomes obsessed with Rita (as if he does not see through her charade) and proposes marriage, which she accepts. But what Rita/Rani really wants is to kill Kumar for outraging her modesty. Rita and Kumar go out for dinner to a club, while Rita carries a hand gun. In the club this song/dance sequence is performed by Katy Irani, who lip syncs to this beautiful Asha Bhosle number.

I am sure you all will love this gem of a song, like I did and continue to do so even to this day. The lyrics of the song are very topical and convey the feelings of requital of Rita/Rani.

khud ko kaise bachaayega tu
aaj na bach ke jaayega tu
khud ko kaise bachaayega tu tu
Loota hai toone

bhooloon kaisi baat wo teri mulaakat wo
jeewan ki sabse andheri deewaani raat wo
bhoolun kaisi bat wo teri mulakat wo
jeewan ki sabse andheri deewaani raat wo
dhokhe se le jayi gayi thi waha
aaj tujhe leke main aayi yahaan
aaj tujhe leke main aayi yahaan
Loota hai toone mujhe mujhe mujhe
chhodoongi na main tujhe tujhe tujhe
aaj na bach ke jaayega tu
khud ko kaise bachaayega tu
aaj na bach ke jaayega tu
khud ko kaise bachaayega tu tu

daayen se na jaane doongi
baayen se na jane doongi
aisa tuhje gher loongi
aawaz na lagaane doongi
daayen se na jaane doongi
baayen se na jane doongi
aisa tuhje gher loongi
aawaz na lagaane doongi
saamne hi tera anzaam hai
teri zindagi ki yahi shaam hai
teri zindagi ki yahi shaam hai
Loota hai toone mujhe mujhe mujhe
chhodoongi na main tujhe tujhe tujhe ae
aaj na bach ke jaayega tu

First I thought the dancer was Sonia Sahini. Then I found out it was Manisha.

No it was not Manisha(who was there in Bawarchi and Mere Bhaiyya),
First I thought that it was MADHU MALHOTRA, but on second thoughts, Madhu Malhotra(a subhash ghai favourite) was not there in the film scene during that era.
May be a foreign actress or junior dancer, someone HELP/confirm

Venkatraman Ji & Prakash Chandra Ji, it is mentioned in the post that the dancer is Katy Mirza.

Manisha of Bawarchi lip syncs the other song, ” Yeh Kaisi Lagi Agan Jale Badan”.

Katy Irani (as given in write-up) or Katy Mirza (as given above)?

Sorry Aparna Ji, my mistake. Typo. It is Katy Irani.

Satyajit Ji,
I did not find the name of Katy Irani in the title credits of the movie. Manisha was credited with special appearance. Hence the assumption. Thank you for pointing out my oversight.
