Rahul Dev Burman – Forgotten Songs – 3
——————————————

The third song song of this series is a beauty from “Phir Kab Milogi”, a 1974 movie produced by Hari Mehra, directed by Hrishikesh Mukharjee. The songs were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri, composed by R D Burman and sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh.

The movie starred Biswajeet, Mala Sinha, David, Deven Verma, Bipin Gupta, Vijaya Chaudhary, Abhi Bhattacharya, Parveen Paul, Ansari, Sailesh Kumar, Naaz, Uma Dutt, Neelima, Shridhar, Sujata, Bishan Khanna, Vikram and Dilip Kumar is a special role.

Two songs out of a total of five have already been posted.

As per IMDB, the movie tells the story of Sapna (Mala Sinha) who is having fun meeting her employee Rajesh (Biswajit) as Paro, and then, in the city as Sapna; and Rajesh falls for the simplicity of Paro. His heart breaks when he realizes both Sapna and Paro are one, and he leaves his job, and goes to a remote village, where he once again meets Sapna, but this time, as a would be of local contractor, Diwan Sahab. She is taken hostage by Teja (Dilip Kumar) because of some confusion that she had hit his sister. His sister, realizing that Teja would kill Sapna, lets her go, but Sapna doesn’t reach back to her cottage. Would Rajesh ever be able to tell her he loved her; more importantly, is Sapna still alive?

The first line of the prelude music reminds of the first line of the song “Kya hua tera wada” from the movie Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (1978). It is a strong strings based prelude. Overall orchestration is good with strings and wind instruments with some great percussion led by Maruti Rao Keer, on tabla, a Pancham favourite who is credited with being his assistant music director in many movies of the 70s. And what can one say about Lata Mangeshkar….She just floats with the song like a beautiful butterfly.

“Tum Mujhse Roothe Ho Chalo Mana” by Lata Mangeshkar, music by R D Burman, lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri from “Phir Kab Milogi” (1974).

NOTE: The video and audio clips give two different antras as the first antra. The one that is in the video is given in the full song, whereas, the one in the audio is mentioned below the second antra. We should probably go by the video clip for the correctness of the hierarchy of the antras.
