“Majboor”(1948) was directed by Nazir Ajmeri for Bombay Talkies. The movie had Amir Banu, Munawwar Sultana, Indu, Shivraj, Shyam Sohan etc in it.
I was under the impression that several, if not all, songs from this movie had already been covered in the blog. It came as a surprise to me to realise that only two songs from this movie have been covered so far.
Here is the third song from “Majboor” (1948) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt. Nazim Panipati is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Haider.

Lata Mangeshkar’s first film song was this 1948 film. It was the music director Ghulam Haider that introduced Lata to the film world. He saw the talent in her while film producers, at that time, thought her voice was too shrilly and thin compared to the already established singer Noor Jehan’s voice. Ghulam Haider took a risk with her in 1948, and the rest is history!!!
Lata’s 84th birthday was on Sept.27, 2013. In an interview Lata herself describes how music director Ghulam Haider showed complete faith in her talent in 1948 film Majboor, when other film producers were not willing to introduce her to the film world. Ghulam Haider not only had her record her first film song, but also invited many great music directors of that era like Naushad, Anil Biswas to witness the recording of her first film song for film Majboor (1948).
