Today (21 february 2015) is a day when I woke up rather early which is quite uncharacteristic for me. But then situation called for it. No, I was not keen to watch the world cup match between Pakistan and West Indies. Rather, I wanted to ensure that I did not miss the world cup match between BCCI ( team India for the gullible persons) and South Africa. People aware of the match schedule of the world cup would wonder what non sense I was talking about.

I am talking perfect sense, in fact. By waking up early in the morning was necessary for me to catch my train scheduled to arrive at around half past nine in the morning. In keeping with my habit of packing my luggage at the last moment, I needed to pack up my things, taking care that I did not forget anything important.

After a couple of hours of serious packing, which included searching for the bags to take with me, followed by equally fervent search for the items to put in the bags, I felt that it was time for me to finish off my blogging for the day. Yesterday I had planned to post eight songs, but it the end I could do only four. I had planned to post the balance four today.

I managed to post two and then I realised that I had run out of time and I needed to post the balance two songs in train.

I arrived at the station and board the train which would take me to the western part of the country. I would arrive there early in the morning, just in time to be able to watch the cricket match described above.:) Now one can appreciate why I wanted to board this train. Boarding any other train would make me miss the match.

I boarded the train and took my seat. But looking at my co passengers, it became clear that I would be able to do any blogging only after all of them had their lunch followed by their post lunch siesta (as is the habit of most long distance rail travellers in Indian trains). So now I find myself free to do my blogging.

The coach that I am in is unfortunately poorly maintained. One side effect (beneficial to me) is that the laptop /mobile charging point near me is available. Someone tried to insert his charger in the shabby looking charging point and was unable to do that. When I tried, my charging devices surprisingly managed to fit in. 🙂 And more importantly, they are charging my devices.

Keeping the devices charged is one thing. Being able to actually type something in the running train is turning out to be a challenge in view of the coach vibrating in all dimensions. It is the coach swaying laterally that is posing the most problem. But I am soldiering on bravely.

The reason why I have set this limit of four songs for the day has to do with the fact that this fourth song for the day turns out to be yet another milestone song. It is the 10900th song for the blog and also the 100th song for music director Shyam Sundar.

This song is a delightful song from “Actress”(1948). It is a stage song where Rehana lip syncs prem nagar ki sair karenge fifty ki raftaar mein. 🙂

The song is sung by Shamshad Begam. P L Santoshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shyam Sundar.

The song is picturised as a stage performace song where Rehana lip syncs this song, much to the chagrin of Meena Shorey, who plays her sister and a big star in the movie.

Seeing that I am on travel and I have just about managed to find signal (the station is Gondia), let me make use of this opportunity to present this 10900th blog song as well as the 100th song of Shyam Sundar in the blog.

With this song, “Actress”(1948) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Hamko bhi baithhaana baabu dil ki motor car mein(Actress)(1948) Singer-Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-P L Santoshi, MD-Shyam Sundar

Lyrics

ho o
tujhe le jaaun
duniya se us paar

hamko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein
hamko bhi baithhaana babuly
dil ki motor
dil ki motor
dil ki motor
dil ki motor
hoy dil ki motor car mein
prem nagar ki sair karenge
fifty ki raftaar mein

ho o o
o o o
main haan kudi punjaab di ee ee
ho o o o o
main haan kudi punjaab di ee
tum babu ho bangaali
tum babu ho bangaali
kurta dhoti mein tum aana
kurta dhoti mein tum aana
hoy main hoongi salwaar mein
hamko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein

bahut huye hain ande sunday
bahut huye hain ande sunday
gaanon ke baazaar mein
gaanon ke baazaar mein
hum to milenge tumse raaja
hum to milenge tumse raaja
oye chupke se itwaar mein
ham ko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein

suna prem pe ration hoga
aayega control
suna prem pe ration hoga
aayega control
ye bill hum na pass karenge
ye bill hum na pass karenge
hoy ulfat ki sarkaar mein
hamko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein

ho o o
o o
gaal pe laali
dil hai khaali
gaal pe laali
dil hai khaali
ye kya baithhen car mein
ye kya baithhen car mein
main to
naqad kiraaya doongi
main to
naqad kiraaya doongi
hoy kya rakhha udhaar mein
hamko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein

kuchh na paaoge tum baabu
is albeli naar mein
kuchh na paaoge tum baabu
is albeli naar mein
saari ooper ki chamak damak hai
saari ooper ki chamak damak hai
hoy theatre ki star mein
ham ko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein
dil ki motor
dil ki motor
dil ki motor
dil ki motor
hoy dil ki motor car mein
prem nagar ki sair karenge
fifty ki raftaar mein
ham ko bhi baithhaana babu
dil ki motor car mein

Atul ji,

Congratulations to yourself and all members of the team. Seems like just yesterday we hit the 10K, and we are already nine hundred songs past that milestone. 11K. . . here we come. 🙂

‘Ande Sunday’ in the lyrics above is a clear reference to the then recent hit song from ‘Shehnai’ (1947) – “Aana Mere Jaan Sunday Ke Sunday”.
