Hullo to all in Atuldom

What is the significance of 27th June in the life of Hindi film music lovers? No need to wreck your brains. It is R D Burman’s 76th birthday. Here is a song that should have been on our blog a long time ago. I mean our blog will be 7 years old in less than a month and this song is yet to be posted OMG!!!

Ok I have to relate this incident that occurred in my house when I was looking up for a song that could be posted on ASAD for R D Burman’s birthday. That was another OMG!!! moment 😉

So I asked our Peevesie to look up the blog and see if the song under discussion was up yet. I told her to look for “Mehbooba Mehbooba” without mentioning the name of the movie or any other details about the song.

She came back with the information that only 2 songs of the movie were up yet and she asked me to guess them. Promptly I started singing the sad version of “zindagi toh bewafa hain ek din thukarayegi” when all along in my mind I was thinking of “tune yeh kya kiya bewafa ban gaya wada tod ke”. And I continued to repeat the same song three more times and all along she kept laughing at me and told me I am not worthy of calling myself a fan of this movie. Also she told me that she would have called up my parents and complained to them how they have wasted their money on showing me this movie all those years ago. Then she also threatened to write a mail to atul about debarring me from the group ;-). so I consider it the OMG!! moment of the day. The best part is after having a good laugh at my expense she revealed to me that when I mentioned “Mehbooba Mehbooba” the first song that came to her mind was “O Meri Mehbooba” from “Dharam Veer”. But the minute I mentioned RDB she knew what I was talking about.

So today on the 76th birth anniversary let us have a song sung by R D Burman (he was credited as Pancham when he sang) from this 40 year old movie (god! so many years) written by Anand Bakshi.

Sir If today is RDB’s birthday I would love to remember him along with this great song ” ghar aaja ghir aaye ” from Chote Nawab. Write about this song if you haven’t. Thanks Vijayavaman

Sorry to say this is not a creative work of R.D Burman . It’s copied from: Say You Love Me by Demis Roussos.

Agreed but it is still popular after all these years 🙂

And where did Demis Roussos get the inspiration for “Say You Love Me”(1974)?

It turns out that, that inspiration came from a Cypriot Greek song,
“Ta Rialia (Τα ριάλια)” by Mikhalis Violaris (Μιχάλης Βιολάρης).

This song became a top hit in Greece in 1973, 2 decades before the internet became available to the common man.

Note to note copy of a Lobo song. Because of Sholay’s tremendous success this song became known too. Other composers have copied tunes too, but not in this total and blatant way………
