Today (7 july 2015) is the 101st birth anniversary of Anil Biswas (7 july 1914-31 may 2003), one of the earliest pioneers in the field of HFM music.
Known mostly as a music composer, Anil Biswas had sung a few songs as well. This blog has as many as ten songs sung by Anil Biswas, to go with 249 songs composed by Anil Biswas.
Here is a song from “Aurat”(1940) on this occasion. “Aurat”(1940) was the original version of “Mother India”(1957). THis movie was directed by Mehboob Khan for National Studios. The movie had Sardar Akhtar, Surendra, Lala Yaqoob, Jyoti, Harish, Arun Kumar Ahuja, Vatsala Kumthekar, Brij Rani, Akbar Ghulam Ali, etc in it.
This song, the third from the movie to appear in the blog, is sung by Anil Biswas and chorus. The song is penned by Safdar Aah Sitapuri. Anil Biswas in the music director.
The picturisation shows this song playing in the background while a doli, containing Dulha (Surendra) and Dulhan (Jyoti) onboard and accompanied by the baaraatis (walking on feet ofcourse), is seen going back to the “pee ki nagariya”, with the song urging the baaraatis to hurry up. 🙂
Here is this song from the distant past of HFM. This song, 75 years old, is the 250th composition of Anil Biswas in the blog.

The scene was shot on the hilly roads between Bansda and Dharampur both near Billimora (S Gujarat) the home town of Producer Director Mehboob. To enhance the length of actual marriage procession on bullock carts, Mehboob-ji requested all the people with bullock carts of Bansda, Dharampur and area around to join. People were so enthusiastic to be shot in films, that they whole-heartedly joined the marriage procession. I was too young then, but my elder brother and others who participated, from my hometown Bansda, talked about that adventure for days to come.
