“Sangram”(1950) was directed by Gyan Mukherji. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Nalini Jayawant, Nawab, Tiwari, Shashi Kapoor (jr.), Tabassum, Hemvati, Sajjan, Ram Singh, SN Banerjee etc in it.

Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie.

This song is sung by Shamshad Begam and Lata. Vrajendra Gaur is the lyricist. Music is composed by C Ramchandra.

Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Note: The link for the video clip of the song has been provided by Sadanand ji.  Shashi Kapoor and Tabassum appear in the clip as child actors, playing the childhood version for Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jayawant.  Shamshad Begum sings playback for Shashi Kapoor and Lata sings playback for Tabassum.

I have not been able to get a few words in the lyrics. I request our knowledgeable readers to fill in the balnks/ suggest corrections in the lyrics as applicable.

NOTE: Corrections to lyrics applied as suggested by Pratap ji.

Both

kas ke kamar hoja taiyyaar
ho ja taiyyaar
kas ke kamar hoja taiyyaar
ho ja taiyyaar
karna hoga beda paar
is paar ya us paar
kas ke kamar hoja taiyyaar
hoja taiyyaar

kathin hai jeewaan ka sangraam
hamesha le himmat se kaam
kathin hai jeewaan ka sangraam
hamesha le himmat se kaam
isi se jeete hain ye daam
na haanko deengen badi badi
na haanko deengen badi badi
padegi ghar par chal kar maar
padegi ghar par chal kar maar

na ghabra meri sarkaar
karna hoga beda paar
is paar ya us paar
kas ke kamar hoja taiyyaar
ho ja taiyyaar

yahaan ho jaate hain bekaar
tope teer talwaar
yahaan ho jaate hain bekaar
tope teer talwaar

milenge lad kar ghadi ghadi
milenge lad kar ghadi ghadi
kabhi jeet ho kabhi ho haar
karna hoga beda paar
is paar ya us paar
kas ke kamar hoja taiyyaar
ho ja taiyyaar

?? ‘balwaan’ should be “tope teer talwar”.

Slight amendment, Pratap ji,
I think it is rather,” Tegh, teer, talwar”.
Since both of us are based at the same place, why not we meet sometime as per mutual convenience.
Would be only too pleased to receive a call from you anytime.

It was nice to have talked to you, Avadh Lal Saheb.
I listened to the song again. As the sound is not very clear, it is hard to be sure, but I would still go for ‘tope’ (तोप). Another reason is that ‘tegh’ and ‘talwar’ is the same thing, so tope is more logical, but who knows what the lyricist had in mind!

The song is picturised on Shashi Kapoor and BabyTabassum, of course as junior versions of Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jaywant in the film. Lata sings for Shashi Kapoor. Video link:

I agree with Pratap ji, The missing words are ‘tope, teer talwaar’ and not ‘balwaan’.
