Raksha bandhan comes in the festive month of Shravan. This year it is on 29th August 2015. Wishing all a very Happy Raksha Bandhan.

This is the eighth time we are celebrating it on our blog. Does that mean we have run out of Raksha Bandhan songs to be posted? Actually if we take a look at the list on the right side of our blog –the list which breaks up the blog category wise— we find 21 Rakhi songs have been posted beginning with the all-time universal favourite “Bhaiyya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana” from the 1959 “Chhoti Behan”. The last song in this category was in 2013 by Sudhirji “pardesi ho humse rakhiya bandha” from a 1944 movie.

I don’t recollect what had happened last year same time that prevented Atulji from posting a Rakhi (short for Raksha Bandhan) song. That year Atulji had commented in one of his posts about having covered X number of songs of this festival in the six cycles that it had appeared up until then. Now we have definitely showcased all the well known songs of this festival. So that sends one thinking about what to post for the festival this time and LO! Like godsend I see a movie on some satellite channel and I have found my song. Here it is—

Now this is from the Raj Sippy directed and Romu Sippy produced 1987 movie “Satyamev Jayate”. It shows two sisters Madhavi and Meenakshi Seshadri showering affection and love on their brother – Alankar Joshi (who was no longer a Master then.) They both sing in the voice of Kavitha Krishnamurthy a song written by Farooque Kaiser which has been composed by Bappi Lahiri. 90% of our Rakhi songs show the sister to be younger than the brother; this song is slightly different in that here the sisters are older. Another thing which is HATKE here is that Alankar is the brother of Madhavi whose friend Meenakshi also considers him her brother —- the mooh bola bhai or Rakhi brother concept which is a common reality is used here.
