”Bewaqoof”(1960) was written, produced and directed by I S Johar. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Mala Sinha, I. S. Johar, Pran, Leela Chitnis, Bipin Gupta, Sabita Chatterjee etc in it.
Eight songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the ninth and final song from “Bewaqoof”(1960). The song is sung predominantly by Asha Bhonsle with a few largely gibberish lines by Manna Dey. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.
The song is picturised as a club dance song. Pran has organised a dance function in honour of an “African” delegation that consists of Mala Sinha and a few men, including Kishore Kumar coating their faces black with shoe polish which was the recommended way for looking like an African in Hindi movies those days. 🙂
The song sung by Asha Bhonsle is picturised on a lady that looks like Helen (I could be wrong and I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her) and a couple of “African” gentlemen too join in the song and dance briefly. They sing gibberish in Manna Dey’s voice. One of these “African” gentlemen is Kishore Kumar in disguise, of course. The clever audience are able to see through his disguise whereas Pran, being less clever than the audience, is unable to recognise him. 🙂
With this song, “Bewaqoof”(1960) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
